A curriculum was designed that consisted of eleven discipleship training sessions.  These discipleship training sessions took place weekly.  To determine the effectiveness of the program, the experimental research method was used. The hypothesis was tested in India by developing and implementing a discipleship training program with mentoring. The project involved training two groups of students called mentoring and non-mentoring.  After fifteen weeks of discipleship training, test scores indicated that the mentored group had an edge over the non-mentored. Two sample small groups were used for the ten-week project: a pilot group and a parallel group.  The pilot group consisted of seven members who were secured through private invitation. The parallel group's involvement was limited to taking the same pretest and posttest as the pilot group. The project consists of twelve lesson plans developed around the church's ministry values.  The lessons were taught to the board of elders and a pilot group. It was based on II Timothy 2:1-2, and the theology and methods of discipling used by Paul, the early church, and John Wesley's early Methodist class meetings. It incorporated learnings from Evangelism Explosion, Walk to Emmaus, and a previous discipling model.  Evaluation indicated that disciple-making contributed to personal growth in evangelism and discipleship. Participants from seven adult new memeber classes at St Peter's By the Sea Presbyterian Church (Rancho Palos Verdes, California) met monthly for six months in homes of the class members.  The evenings were divided between basic Bible study and personal sharing.
