Titus","Christian life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many Christians in southern Tanzania have a tendency to combine their tribal traditions with Christianity.  They believe God has become distant and the means to draw Him close is through ancestral spirits, sexual customs, and church rituals.  The result has been a high rate of adultery in the church and the view that Christians must work out their salvation before God.  The goal of this thesis project has been to implement a model of discipleship, based upon the book of Titus, among sixty one church leaders from various denominational and tribal backgrounds in southern Tanzania to determine if these misconceptions about God and lifestyle practices could change. These patterns are examined in the light of Biblical/theological reflection, as well as psychosocial dynamics that likely affect a member's 'sense of belonging.'  A review of spiritual renewal movements in the development of the Christian faith provides historical antecedents for the formation of a theology of discipleship mentoring ministry. A crucial part of the project was the construction of a biblical theology and philosophy of discipleship in a small group context. In addition, interviews were conducted with five pastors of similar size churches with small group ministry to generate ideas and resources. In a two-phase process, the project director equipped a small group of church members, who then discipled another individual. Theologically, the basis of the project stems from Jesus' training of His disciples, with additional references to Paul's training of disciples like Timothy.  The project director worked to develop a disciple-making team in a local church historically weak in informed, intentional disciple making.  As a result of the project, the participants formed a team to plan and implement a discipleship strategy for the church.
