After completing a six-week teaching series, the groups engaged in doing a missions project.  Meeting a felt need in the missions project allowed them to minister to the recipeints of the project through prayer, encouragement, and sharing the love of Jesus Christ. The goal of this project was to develop a contextualized discipleship strategy for Chinese international students that prepares them for re-entry into their native country. Qualitative research was used to gain a better understanding of Chinese international students coming to the University of Wisconsin. It also served to assess the effectiveness of the discipleship strategy. The long-term success of this discipleship strategy is unverified. The methodology undertaken was Participatory Action Research and included resident surveys, missional health assessments, and interviews. In particular, a storied way of Lectio Divina successfully cultivates a deeper relationship with God, and an increased sensitivity to God's work in individual lives. As group members, ranging from new believers to mature Christ followers, share these life stories with one another, spiritual companionship deepens. This project was an attempt to help believers implement practices that would help them become more like Jesus.  Through the support, encouragement, and accountability that came through a small group environment, participants learned how to practice historical spiritual spiritual disciplines, identify those they believed would be most helpful for their Christian growth, and developed a plan to incorporate these into their lives.
