Being a disciple is not a static event but an on-going process of growth.  For many people this growth is slow or even non-existent.  The purpose of this project, Men in Christ, is to present a model of discipleship training, using small groups, that will equip male members of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church to live as growing, maturing disciples of Jesus. The project drew its focus on a ten-week training seminar and a five-week in-prison disciple-making program to inmates.  Statistical analysis revealed that the ministry team was effective in discipling the men.  Chapter 1 gave an introduction to the goals and purpose for the project.  Chapter 2 addressed the biblical and theological issues surrounding the challenges of disciple-making. My thesis is that the preaching of the gospel together with providing social ministry will have a positive impact on those who live in Hartford's troubled inner-city. The research included a likert scale questionnaire and a focus group using open-ended questions.  I successfully trained 38 persons to witness and make disciples in gang infested, crime ridden neighborhoods that surround Mount Moriah Baptist Church. He used a focus group, tests and questionnaires to measure the effect of the study on the participants. The writer combined a desire to promote growth through preaching from the gospels and passion for the disciplines into a project that draws the two together.  The topic of spirituality was explored widely, and the gospels were read repeatedly to see how the spiritual life was stressed therein.  The disciplines highlighted were 1) Bible intake, 2) prayer, 3) fasting, 4) solitude, 5) submission, 6) worship/celebration, and 7) generosity. The project began with a questionnaire concerning spiritual gifts and one's purpose in the church. Next, a three part sermon series on spiritual gifts was used to educate and inspire members to participate in the seminar. During the seminar, students took inventories to discover their spiritual gifts, passions, personality, and temperament types and completed a ministry resume form.
