The project is a result of years of research including interviews with other clergy in the American context regarding the task of disciple-making. To test this thesis, a series of twelve biblical sermons on discipleship was preached at Crowfield Baptist Church, Goose Creek, South Carolina. A focus group of 16 persons was administered a pretest and posttest to determine the effectiveness of the preaching series in increasing listeners' knowledge of biblical teachings on discipleship, and upon their personal state of discipleship. Titus","Christian life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many Christians in southern Tanzania have a tendency to combine their tribal traditions with Christianity.  They believe God has become distant and the means to draw Him close is through ancestral spirits, sexual customs, and church rituals.  The result has been a high rate of adultery in the church and the view that Christians must work out their salvation before God.  The goal of this thesis project has been to implement a model of discipleship, based upon the book of Titus, among sixty one church leaders from various denominational and tribal backgrounds in southern Tanzania to determine if these misconceptions about God and lifestyle practices could change. Finally, five professional peers evaluated the three project sermons along with three sermons randomly selected from the project director's prior year of preaching. This research project explores potential reasons for this discontinuity between worship and the world, as well as related issues of cultural context. A general review of current paradigm shifts will include an overview of missio dei. An eschatological emphasis will invite a return to New Testament ecclesial practice. These patterns are examined in the light of Biblical/theological reflection, as well as psychosocial dynamics that likely affect a member's 'sense of belonging.'  A review of spiritual renewal movements in the development of the Christian faith provides historical antecedents for the formation of a theology of discipleship mentoring ministry. Through a four-week Bible study exploring missional themes and a survey, participants in the study were asked to reflect on how their involvement in the life of the congregation shaped their perceptions. Right and wrong have largely been reduced to personal opinions even in those who regularly attend church. One pastor documented through national surveys, polls, studies, and articles how right and wrong in contemporary culture have become divorced from the Ten Commandments. Conducting research at a congregational level and among other community Christian churches, resulted in the finding that the Ten Commandments are seen as God's rules for right and wrong but not in a personal sense for one's daily life as a Christian. Many regular church goers are operating from the conviction - I know it is wrong according to God, but God forgives me in Christ, so I'll do it anyway! The pastor undertook a seven Sunday Bible study and preaching series focusing on the Ten Commandments using the lessons of the day. During the seven-week series the average of people in church increased 6% over the previous year average.
