Experimental and descriptive research methodologies were used with control and experimental groups.  A questionnaire determined spiritual disciplines that needed improvement, and a training manual was developed based upon the results. The experimental group received seven weeks of discipleship training from the project director.  This group then trained others one-on-one using the same material. A follow-up manual was given to half of the 26 new members of the church to use for a period of four months.  The treatment and control groups were administered pre- and post-test surveys and results were compared. As such it must be renewed if transformation of life is to overcome conformity to the world. Two assumptions underlie this research: 1) a Christian's personal giftedness is at the core of empowerment for ministry; and 2) empowerment is a multi-faceted reality.  The project includes interviews of participants who recount significant events and moments that shaped their involvement in ministry. The author seeks to give clarity to a theological basis for Christian motivations in giving.  The general thesis of this project is derived from biblical material.  The author argues that the mandates for Christian discipleship are necessarily inclusive of the biblical principles of giving. Twenty-three lectures were presented in Bible study sessions in a congregational context. The focus in this project is upon training church members (disciples) to provide meaningful initial interaction (discipling) with new members (disciples) which flows from an understanding of discipleship that is wholistic.
