By expecting people to care, challenging them to care, and providing opportunities to care, the local congregation can help persons grow in faith and become a powerful witness for Jesus Christ. There are four major themes: discipleship as encounter with the Good News; discipleship as celebration; discipleship as life in community; and discipleship as the radical change making Christ the center of one's life. To test the thesis a class of six sessions was taught which focused on the universal priesthood as well as vocation, affirmation of gifts, spiritual disciplines and the mutual consolation and conversation of the saints.  In conclusion, the changed historical context of today, as well as apathy, ignorance, and limited endorsement by clergy limit the thesis. A series of sermons and sermon interactions was utilized to increase the congregation's awareness of the need for training new adult members in discipleship.  A curriculum was designed that consisted of ten discipleship training sessions.  To determine the effectiveness of the program, the experimental research method was used. The director researched the appropriate materials at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary Library and his personal library.  He made research notations and collated the material for use in the model project.  A discipler workshop and a twelve-week training program was implemented among the project participants. This project is designed as a means for developing mature church members, helping them grow in their expression of Christian discipleship, enabling the church to express its mission to the world, and assisting church members to make the promises of their vows realities in their lives.  This project describes a series of six sessions with twelve adult lay persons in which the essential nature of church membership was explored from biblical, theological and historical perspectives.  The project is evaluated by the use of individual presession and postsession interviews. The null hypothesis stated that there will be no significant differences in selected personality traits between people who continue in a disciple-making ministry and people who do not.  The method involved administering a biographical data sheet, a twenty-question religiosity survey and the multidimensional personality questionnaire to a sample group of 120 individuals who had been involved in disciple-making ministry.  The mean scores of the sample group were compared with the general population mean scores. The project utilized a format that included a control group and an experimental group of fifteen people each.  Learning methods included ten weeks of group study, individual study assignments, and fellowship. Skills, taught in 'Growth Sessions', gave practice through group and individual processes.  Support through mentoring and evaluation was very important in encouraging persons in their growth. Researching the history, polity, and membership statistics of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, the observation is made that certain ecclesiastical procedures hinder, rather than facilitate, each congregation's fulfillment of this mission. Theological critique establishes the case for taking a new approach in order to effectively make disciples of all nations.  A church growth consultation is conducted in a local Christian Reformed congregation, using, in small groups, materials based on the planning cycle.  Although modest results are realized, it is observed that even the best plans, methods, and strategies depend upon prayer and the blessing of God.
