This is rapidly changing because of societal need and the fact that the Bible has many things to say about care of our world. In fact, environmental stewardship was the frst job given human beings by God. It is even more important today. This project acknowledges the need to mobilize the church to be stewards of the environment, and develops a course of study to be used in our congregations to make people aware of their responsibilites and motivations. The class was field tested at The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Evansville, Indiana. Biblical references for giving are considered in context and for application in a postmodern world. Stewardship's development is traced to its formation at the height of 'modern' confidence in humanity's ability to master money and economic systems. This confidence is contrasted with Jacques Ellul's analysis of money's ability to control human lives and divert them from God's purposes. A stewardship campaign that is based on postmodern principles is descibed, and its effectiveness evaluated.
