Foundations of this study come from research in developmental theory, biological development and faith development.  Project areas are: God's gift of sexuality, the human body, sexually transmitted disease, self-esteem, peer-pressure, concepts of love and decision-making. The rationale given from Scripture is that believers who receive comfort from God should pass that comfort on to others. Library research, personal interviews and life experiences give practical ways in which, by counseling and careful follow-up, comfort may be brought to the dying and to those in mourning.  Research revealed that funeral plans are best made in advance, eliminating unnecessary, hidden expenses and avoidance of emotional trauma. The project focuses on three tasks: 1) defining the role of RCIA sponsorship for St Paul's Parish; 2) designing and implementing a method of RCIA sponsor recruitment for the parish; and 3) designing and implementing an RCIA sponsor training program for St Paul's.  The document outlines the process involved in completing these three tasks, suggests a theological basis for sponsorship, and presents one model for recruiting and training RCIA sponsors. Dialogue is appropriate because the basic theme of the Bible is God's passion for reconciliation and dialogue is a means of reconciliation.  Dialogue is viable because, in terms of James Fowler's stages of faith, even people who have not developed beyond the second stage are capable of responding to dialogue in a limited way.
