A series of sermons was developed with the input from the project associates to help the Korean congregation understand the Christian message in the context of Korean shamanistic culture and to equip them as ministers for God and to others. This paper studies the reasons for church-mission tensions and proposes general solutions leading to a specific strategy.  The author, in addition to library research, draws upon his own personal experience of 13 years in Zaire.  A new model for church-mission partnership, characterized by mutual responsibility and interdependence is suggested. Called 'project mode,' this new paradigm for participatory partnership was submitted to 23 mission organizations for their evaluation. People participated in two consecutive seven-week cycles of prayer partnerships. There was an education seminar at the beginning and an evaluation seminar at the conclusion of each cycle.  A pretest and a posttest were administered to participants and non-participants; an evaluation survey was administered to participants. Documentary research indicates that shamanism is resilient and pervasive in its influence because it always satisfies man's inborn desires.  Syncretism has occurred when shamanism meets Christianity, with the result that Koreans are confused about the nature of faith.   Field research demonstrates a positive correlation (0.763) between shamanism and spiritual depression.  A worksheet was made for the spirituality depressed in accordance with the special context of shamanism. Theological reflection on the responses to the survey and subsequent interviews held with people who are implementing the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults point up the responsibility that parish leaders have to engender the communities of empowerment similar to the small communities of the early church. The evolution demonstrates a marked shift in meaning from the experience of the Apostles to the use of the terms in today's context.  The shifts are positive because they once again call the laity and the church community to mission and evangelization.  This project focuses especially on the role of the RCIA sponsor. Sponsors serve as examples of lay persons recognizing the call to mission and evangelization.  They are a group in need of formation in mission and evangelization.  The educational design for RCIA sponsors focuses on the role of the lay person and the community in mission and evangelization, and also provides an opportunity for the sponsors to experience the tie between their actions on behalf of the candidates as well as the action of the community. The method of studying the thesis is through historical-theological investigation. There were three dialogue sessions in the project. Each session lasted about two hours.  The dialogue partners were a priest, a pastor and lay members from each religious community.  The methodology of the dialogue was questions and answers.  A set of questions was formulated to focus on the concerns of each dialogue session. The guide also may be used in advance of death to provide survivors information about choices and preferences.  Case studies of twenty-five people who, within the last three years, were primary survivors responsible for making arrangements were the principal data sources.  The theological rationale is grounded in the biblical affirmations that God is with us and God suffers with us and that the Christian disciple, in turn, is called to be with and suffer with
