Hip hop is more than rap songs and music. It is a culture all its own. The author's thesis addresses preaching as a tool to invite a small congregation east of Atlanta to accept and welcome the hip hop culture into the church. The author's thesis is that when a congregation becomes knowledgeable about hip hop, it is more accepting and more open to welcoming young people that embrace hip hop. The author's method was to introduce hip hop to the congregation by hosting a hip hop concert. The author also asked the congregation to complete a questionnaire about their views on hip hop culture. The author educated the congregation by preaching a series of sermons about hip hop and its history. At the worship services during the sermons, recording artists sang hip hop songs, hip hop prayers were offered, and youth were actively involved in the worship services. The author discovered at the conclusion of her research that because the congregation was educated about hip hop culture, the members were willing to accept hip hop into Livingston Chapel CME Church. What may appear to some as a crisis of ambiguity about the nature and place of the Ten Commandments in the public and religious spheres in America could be regarded as an opportunity for clarity on the part of preachers. The study addresses the need for Church of God preachers to engage in cultural dialogue through a fresh preaching of the Ten Commandments. The literature review surveys scholarly works regarding the context and meaning of the Decalogue in the Old and New Testaments, the meaning of the Commandments in light of a corrosive postmodern value system, and views of scholars and preachers regarding how to preach the Ten Commandments. The study included interviews with six Church of God Movement preachers, with the goal of learning about their experences related to the place of the Decalogue in the pulpit. The study involved semi-structured interviews with pastors and church leaders from four Presbyterian Church in America churches in the eastern United States. The study revealed that diverse strategies of revitalization reflect the unique mix of gifts and resources that each church possesses, both in its leaders and laypeople. Effective renewal plans are not borrowed from models provided by other churches, but are carefully crafted to fit each unique congregation. The study also revealed the importance of communicating a clear rationale and vision for change but also discerning what kind of change the congregation would most readily embrace. Leaders must possess a unitifed commitment to pursue necessary change but also adapt leadership initiatives and style to fit the congregation. Finally, the study revealed that churches more effectively pursue change when they are aware of their church culture and the opportunities and limitations it represents. The recognition of the dynamics of personality can reveal the most effective pathways to ministry fruitfulness as well as provide insight into pathways that should be avoided."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131470837841920,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:48:01.044Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:38:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:33:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"16e2a2c8-eb76-4c50-a0a3-e34a51eac94e","accessControl_ssim":["36b81b7f-1a09-40d5-820b-407d5301d870"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Understanding and equipping the church in its practice of love through hospitality and redemptive conversation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:38:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:47:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["83a18355-ab2f-4b4b-9a04-6ac89cc344b8"],"hasLease_ssim":["172a0773-a9eb-4605-9d3c-90752538c2ed"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Daniel W Zink"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Timothy A Meendering"],"keyword_tesim":["Practice (Theology)","Worldview"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary (St. Louis, MO)"],"subject_tesim":["Christianity and culture","Witness bearing (Christianity)","Hospitality--Religious aspects--Christianity","Christian life","Conversation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project has focused on understanding and equipping the church for its practice of love through hospitality and redemptive conversation. Scripture makes it clear that love for the stranger through the practice of Christian hospitality is a mandate for the church. Scripture also provides instruction for our conversations which are a critical element for communicating the humility, acceptance and love of the gospel. This study has demonstrated that while the faithful practice of hospitality and redemptive conversation is a vital part of the church's mission, it is becoming increasingly difficult to be faithful in these practcies. A review of literature and a series of interviews have exposed the worldview and external factors affecting faithfulness. When interviewees embraced the gospel, were taught by example, were encouraged, and engaged in hospitality and redemptive conversation, the daily resistance and barriers toward faithful practice were often overcome. Most significant was the affirmation of the indispensability of our theology with a kingdom vision, a grasp and embrace of the gospel, or the compelling power of Christ's love for propelling us into the counter-cultural work of hospitality and redemptive conversation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130552174116864,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:33:24.939Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:37:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:51:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"18a08e41-ca30-4156-be2b-2ece59f939e2","accessControl_ssim":["12ede5a0-621a-4608-9f00-03f2471e3439"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Missional multi-generational churches: how to maximize the traits of multi-generational churches for mission"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:37:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:51:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["59466be5-97b1-4dfe-9794-c2d68a5c6eb3"],"hasLease_ssim":["4eec86c1-3313-460c-aaf6-85dd50c5e8d9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Samuel D Rima"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Richard E Stapleton"],"keyword_tesim":["Theory"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Christianity and culture","Evangelistic work","Intergenerational relations","Conflict of generations","Strategy","Church growth","Missions--Theory"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["How can the traits of multi-generational churches be maximized for mission? Implementing this unity-in-diversity includes identifying sinful tendencies to find our identity at the expense of others, caring for the 'outsiders,' participating in God's redemptive plan, working towards reconciliation, and taking initiative to live out the 'new humanity' described in Ephesians 2:11-22."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132134677676032,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:34.132Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":166,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
