Chapter one presents the ministry context and the goals of this project. Chapter two provides an exegesis of four passages of Scripture (Matthew 5:13-16; Acts 17:26,27; 1 Corinthians 9:19-23; Ephesians 2:1-10) to show God’s plan for humanity to walk in a relationship with him. The chapter also explains that God empowers believers by his grace to serve him and calls believers to be a witness for him in both word and action. Chapter three identifies four of the most formal evangelism methods and explains how relational ways of reaching out are a seamless transition from evangelism to discipleship. Chapter four describes the project itself, describing the details of the preparation and implementation of the project. Chapter five evaluates the purpose and goals of the project. This chapter also addresses the strengths and weaknesses of the project. Ultimately, this project seeks to motivate people at Gather, to reach out to others in their social circles towards the goal of being a positive influence on them by both living and sharing the Gospel."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132023311564800,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:56:47.925Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:12:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:13:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"da971b58-505c-4976-8b23-64272e946325","accessControl_ssim":["a8e04c72-9393-429e-a586-ba44b3a6a609"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Incarnational Preaching: The Three-Perspective Model of Timothy Keller"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:12:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:22:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9d502cbe-ed53-4d94-8cb1-e268aa1dce20"],"hasLease_ssim":["5f8eb105-1dbc-4161-96e8-ce01a5d3c893"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Expository Preaching"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Matthew McKellar Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"location_tesim":["China","United States","Texas","Taiwan"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Keller’s methodology for preaching is Christ-centered, text-centered, compassionate, exegetically sound, and pastoral. He applies some elements of text-driven preaching. This project chooses twenty of Keller’s sermons from the Old and New Testaments in three different genres (Story, Poetry, and Epistles) to examine his preaching model. This project’s primary goal is to enhance pastoral ministry’s effectiveness through preaching, particularly in moments of crisis and tragedy.John M. Frame’s Perspectives on the Word of God and Vern S. Poythress’s Symphonic Theology shape Keller’s three-perspective model for preaching. Both of them argue that applying multiple exegesis perspectives helps deliver absolute truth and relevant application in the different contexts of the audience. Keller’s preaching methodology can be named “incarnational preaching” because Christ’s incarnation and ministries are evident in all these three perspectives. The result shows that Keller applies almost equal emphasis to both biblical and situational perspectives in his sermons. Sometimes he applies more emphasis to the situational perspective than to the biblical perspective so that the modern audience could comprehend and apply biblical truth to their lives. Additionally, Keller’s personal view takes less than 14 percent of his sermons. It shows that his personal experience and preferences do not dominate his sermons. Keller is willing to share his weakness and get involved with the audience. He shows his compassion for the suffering and expresses his passion for the Gospel. Keller is like a friend of the bridegroom to show that Christ is the center of the entire wedding because “he (Christ) must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:29-30).Keller demonstrates how to balance, integrate, and unite biblical, situational, and personal perspectives in his preaching. By observing Keller’s sermons, preachers could find that utilizing Keller’s three-perspective model helps explain the text and capture the whole picture. Preachers could learn from his methodology and examine their sermons for these three perspectives to enhance pastoral ministries."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133059840475136,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:13:16.436Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:12:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:23:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"976d6eb8-2eee-4697-85cb-d420b175ea20","accessControl_ssim":["c7dc832a-482a-4ea8-bdd3-e63e4598d94e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Grace Leads to Joy: Spiritual Formation and the Examen"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:12:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:33:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d6448a7e-21fb-4ea8-bfaa-bfdfd7f1c953"],"hasLease_ssim":["5e871a90-10ba-4725-882a-2b562d687272"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Tyndale University"],"year_tesim":["2021"],"location_tesim":["Canada","Malawi","Netherlands"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Hoekstra, Edward Pierre"],"keyword_tesim":["Tests and measurements in religion","Practice (Theology)"],"subject_tesim":["Discipling (Christianity)","Commitment to the church","Kingdom of God","Beatitudes","Reformed Church","Bible. A massive media shift, comparable to the dawn of the printing press, has been changing cultures worldwide for over adecade. While resources regarding media ecology are increasingly available—as are resourcesdealing with expository preaching and culture—preachers lack resources for expositing thescriptures in a digital age, with its shifting epistemologies. The purpose of this study is toexamine how preachers navigate the challenges of expositing the scriptures to digitally saturatedcongregants.Four research questions guided this qualitative study: 1. In what ways do pastors describethe effects of digital saturation on the lives of their congregants? 2. What challenges do pastorsexperience in intentionally preaching expositionally to engage their digitally saturatedcongregants? 3. What opportunities do pastors experience in intentionally preachingexpositionally to engage their digitally saturated congregants? 4. What strategies do pastorsemploy in meeting the challenges posed by intentionally preaching expositionally to engage theirdigitally saturated congregants? The findings of the study show that the current media ecology has shifted indemonstrable ways from that of the print age, giving way to emerging epistemologies. This studyalso reveals valid concerns regarding the emerging digital ecology and the church’s vital need tobetter understand these epistemologies. Additionally, specific practices and approaches toreading and preaching scripture are presented for improving gospel communication in the currentmedia context."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://covenantlibrary.org/etd/2019/Schatzle_Joshua_DMin_2019.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131145965928448,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:42:51.223Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:09:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:18:09Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2935e466-52d8-4e3f-86c6-773256419eb7","accessControl_ssim":["02fdeb5a-05cf-4140-bf33-fc7d43c75a20"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Phenomenology of Practicing Dignified Dialogue on Denver Seminary Students' Perceptions of Biblical Mutuality"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:09:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:20:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["db4d9766-c157-4c6a-ab73-625ff64fe618"],"hasLease_ssim":["e5e8adf5-2454-4a2f-9abd-db8a260ca535"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Leadership in Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Marshall Shelley D.Min."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. A phenomenological research method was employed to discover the lived experiences of Denver Seminary students who practiced dignified dialogue in group studies around the topic of biblical mutuality for ten weeks. Participants’ collective experiences revealed that though participating in dignified dialogue was a difficult, thought-provoking, and tumultuous practice, it was a necessary skill to further develop as it is an essential component of shared humanity . This cult has continued to grow and attract pilgrims each year. In their daily life, Vietnamese are interested to take part in Marian devotional practices. They have shown their special honor and veneration to Our Lady because she is considered as a powerful and effective figure who would take help and protection over those in need. Indeed, Vietnamese are taking the image of Mary and imagining her as a source of their strength and empowerment. In its earliest days, Vietnam was indeed a matriarchal society in which women got a high status. In the history of Vietnam, some women would play their important role as female political and military leaders. In the goddess worship ritual, women would become masters of the ceremony. We realized that women’s status was high in the ancient time, but it has been declined since the patriarchal ideology of Confucianism was introduced into the country. Since then, women were more disadvantaged when compared to men in all aspects of life. Present-day, women are still treated as second class citizens. Even though the national laws give equal rights to both sexes, the issue of gender inequality and violence against women still persist in Vietnam. In order to raise the status of women, we proposed a spirituality that may transform attitudes toward women. Also we highlighted some ways that may help to advance the role of women in the Church and society, especially as leaders."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129690274004992,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:19:42.967Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:04:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:06:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"751e4f6e-7935-4d40-90e1-d42eaf5fe98d","accessControl_ssim":["1803f110-6fd7-4021-a194-7511d3470f80"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An Analysis of the Cultural and Leadership Differences Among Leaders in the Chinese Immigrant Church in America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:04:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:34:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6d15d9e0-b550-42ad-a25e-b65b80c4d238"],"hasLease_ssim":["c71aa05f-6de8-4caf-a7b6-fb3cf40dc390"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Leadership and Management"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Joy (Kooi-Chin) Tong Ph.D.","William Donahue Ph.D.","Peter Cha Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Chinese immigrant churches in America, like most organizations, are facing many challenges. One of the biggest challenges is how to deal with cultural differences inside the church. The differences are not only between ABC (American Born Chinese) and OBC (Overseas Born Chinese), but also among OBC who come from different parts of China and all over the world. Chinese immigrant churches losing young people and failing to reach ABC have been known problems for more than the past twenty-five years. Most books and papers use old Chinese culture to describe OBC culture and American culture to describe ABC culture to analyze the problems and try to help people to know themselves and to know each other. This approach has helped some of the churches, but it has also caused some confusion and issues when people use this to stereotype the OBC and ABC leaders in the church. This project used a survey to investigate the cultural and leadership differences among leaders in the Chinese immigrant church in America. The result clearly shows that it is a mistake and will cause confusion when we stereotype ABC is American culture and OBC is Chinese culture. It is mixed up. Each individual have their own even in their same age group. The author sincerely hopes that through Biblical truth and information from social science, the suggestions in this project report can contribute to finding successful ways to lead across cultures in the Chinese immigrant church in America and help develop Christian leaders capable of leading across cultures in the church and in the world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716727836114944,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:07:00.143Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:04:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:23:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d628c9a8-4cc6-4bea-9253-c71975cb22f2","accessControl_ssim":["b472351e-49cc-4bc3-884b-e8f3939c9e2c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'Hearing Habakkuk: Lessons on Accurately Applying the Text From the Turkana, Kenya Context'"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:04:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:15:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["592be099-3a72-456b-9953-c15c5ac8310e"],"hasLease_ssim":["05ea3c6c-319a-4712-aef5-9dce39e35652"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Pastoral ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["William Donahue Ph.D.","H. Accurate application, therefore, involves “hearing”/heeding what the text requires of us today—but only after we have heard what it required of the original recipients. This project seeks to explore what constitutes accurate application from within the context of the book of Habakkuk, which a group of Turkana pastors were focusing on in their Bible Pathways training program held at Share International’s SEND Center in Lodwar, Kenya, in July 2017. Habakkuk was the eighth of nine Pathways preaching modules taught to the Turkana pastors over a three-year period by a team of six U.S.-based pastors, including the project writer. While excellent in many ways, the Pathways curriculum is weak in application. And so, the book of Habakkuk and Turkana provided an excellent context in which to formulate and then test four principles of application. The project includes a focus on the original applicational intent of the author—a topic that has received minimal treatment in the literature on application. It also explores the significance of what we have termed the “applicational trajectory” of the text (best seen in the distinct applications of Habakkuk 2:4 in its three appearances in the New Testament). It examines the current debate on deriving principles from the text. And it looks at how these principles might be contextualized to Turkana. The project fieldwork includes observations as and discussions after the Turkana pastors preached, a quiz, presentation of a two-day a seminar titled “Principles of Application from Habakkuk,” a follow-up focus group, and personal interviews."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721552270327808,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:23:41.083Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:59:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:34:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0bd68134-5726-48c4-aed4-31c5eb2cec3f","accessControl_ssim":["ab5d2ccb-31d6-433a-8283-0621a62fa950"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A scientific and philosophic response to David Hume's essay \"Of miracles\" of 1748 / 1777"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:59:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:27:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5a23fd63-0fdf-440f-be2e-fdd1aa709683"],"hasLease_ssim":["cf7a8c5d-27cc-43a8-bb89-4ba135b86016"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Science and Religion"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southern California Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ward Crocker D.Min."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Thomas Varallo M.A."],"subject_tesim":["Faith","Christianity and culture","Gifts, Spiritual"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["David Hume’s argument “Of Miracles” is considered the most famous and effective argument against miracles ever devised. Hume did not argue that miracles were impossible, but that the evidence in favor of a report of a miracle has never, and will never, outweigh the firm, unalterable experience of natural law. He argues that based on natural law (ontology) it is not reasonable to believe (epistemology) a report of a miracle. Thus Hume’s argument is epistemological, but based on ontological experience. With her late husband, Edward D. Hasmatali, they brought the Church of God (CoG) to the island, and were deeply involved in leadership training and church planting. Indo-Trinidadian Pentecostalism seems to be somewhat of an overlooked area of academic study, thus in interviewing Starry, I will seek to uncover their experiences in ministry in Trinidad and Canada, particularly in relation to their historic connection to the Church of God.
