The project brings together theology and futurology in order to cultivate within the church attitudes and skills for effectively living and ministering in the future. This study reviews the thought of major thinkers from the fields of philosophy, theology, and architecture regarding the affective nature of such places.  An experimental planning workshop invites a religious congregation's members to identify symbolic expression desired in a sacred space. The project tests the usefulness of architect Chris Alexander's pattern language theory as the basis of a methodology for this purpose.
