The project first establishes what orthodox inmate Islam is and how it is influenced by Afrocentrism. With orthodox Islam as a guide, the Moorish Science of America and the Nation of Islam are then analyzed on the same basis. African American inmate Islam is a mixture of beliefs and movements that make it difficult to define as Islam. Afrocentric influence leads to mistrust, anger, fear, and resentment of European Americans.
