The objective of this project was to begin the process of getting the congregation the author serves to engage in ministry with other congregations and organizations.  As a result of this collaborative effort, a Shalom Zone and Community Development Corporation was developed. Both of these proved helpful to communities characterized by social fragmentation.  The methodology employed was that of action research through the use of group meetings, questionnaires, and journaling. Where two or more are gathered together as the Body of Christ there are differing opinions and the potential for conflict. The author researched the biblical, theological and spiritual perspectives of the process and ministry of reconciliation. The research culminated in a study of reconciliation with members of a non-conflictual church. The result of the study was two-fold. The participants acquired a detailed definition and understanding of the process of reconciliation from a personal perspective as well as within the church. Based on a series of sermons that speak to the issues of racism, responses by congregational members and preachers are analyzed to determine if the issue can be addressed without undue conflict. This process of unlearning (conversion) is life long.  Small rural communities, typically more resistant to change, are not immune to the sin of racism or the need for ongoing conversion.  Conversion begins with an awareness of racism brought to light through the prophetic preaching of the Word of God.  This conversion process is likened to the recovery process from an addiction.
