The study focuses on African congregations in the ELCA using the Oromo Evangelical Church as a case study. Oromo migration and the Missio Dei, Ethiopia's language policy and its impacts on Oromo language, conquest and incorporation of Oromo into the Ethiopian empire, and history of the Oromo Bible translation and persecution of evangelical Christians in Ethiopia were researched. After conducting research into the Baptist heritage of religious freedom, the author conducted educational events in five Baptist congregations in southeastern North Carolina in which he shared part of the Baptist story in this regard.
