The two main objectives of the study are to minister to the spiritual needs of the gay/lesbian person and his/her family, and to design and implement a method of instruction which can help others better understand the needs of gay/lesbian persons and minister to them in the community of believers.  The latter objective is addressed through the design and testing of a workshop format which included general information on homosexuality, social issues, AIDS, Scripture and theology and general ministry to and with homosexual persons. The project's methodology includes a study of pivotal church documents such as those from Vatican II, Medellin and Puebla.  The author concludes that the Roman Catholic branch of Latin American liberation theology is an expression of Catholic social thought.  In addition this theology is a new movement which grows out of a specific Latin American context. Leadership is provided by professional clergy and lay members alike.  Social ministry is an activity which must become an integral component of the total ministry of a parish.
