Hispanic mission applications are drawn about culture and communication, church planting and growth, and leadership development. This case study of Still Waters United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, was written to research the intentional multicultural vision which we call 'Christ culture' and the success of the congregation to build strong and committed relationships across cultures. The research and findings are based on the period from 1999 to 2013. Still Waters includes people born in North America, Brazil, China, El Salvador, France, Germany, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Vietnam, and Taiwan. The goal of this study, which focused on the country of Portugal, was to discover how to make these transitions more viable. In order to achieve this, a qualitative methodology was designed which involved interviewing three individuals from each of five church plants who had observed such a transition over the previous five years. The project director designed this project utilizing the Strategy Planning model. The project began with the director researching a variety of disciple making methodologies. Secondly, the project director enlisted a select group of pastors, churches and convention staff, and associational workers to serve on a strategic task force. Thirdly, the director and task force developed a strategy for disciple making in an African American community church plant. A group of pastors and churches assigned to the project director participated in the project by teaching some disciple making materials to their congregations. An ethnographic approach to ten church plants were included in this study. Three of the plants were investigated further with additional site visits, surveys and interviews with leaders and members of the church plant community. Four key principles were identified that contributed to the success of the church plant. To do so, it uses two layers of research strategies: (1) at the national level, a qualitative analysis of two national reports and generalizations made about the American Church and culture and (2) at the regional level, an anonymous survey of individuals and participation in both a nondenominational church plant and an established mainstream congregation. American and biblical plans for church planting will be compared. The distinctive challenges of New England for first and second generation Cambodian church planting will be observed. These challenges will then be addressed by building 'bridges' which create partnerships with individuals, families, churches and the community at large. The first section covers the geopolitical situation in the world and the human situation in the city, both of which indicate the need for ministry to world-class cities. The second section establishes the hermeneutical, theological, ecclesiological, missiological, and apologetical parameters within which this thesis project is written. The third section identifies the dilemma in the city, studies the various Christian responses to the city, and reviews evangelical ministry in Boston. The fourth section evaluates the church-planting ministry with which the writer of this thesis has been involved thus far. On the basis of the findings of these sections, a new ministry plan is presented, encompassing the planting of a model church and the establishment of local, regional, continental, and international networks.
