The first part is historical and critical, explaining the views of recent authors who have opposed all church debt and offering a biblical and practical critique of those views.  Then all the biblical passages relevant to indebtedness are exegeted and interpreted.  The conclusions presented are that the Scriptures do not forbid borrowing for individuals and it is inconsistent to allow borrowing for individuals but not for churches. Four questionnaires were responded to by 64 Zairian Mennonites and 10 Mennonite missionaries. Historical research was done at the Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission (AIMM) headquarters in Elkhart, Indiana.  Used also were interviews, missiological writings, biblical research, and the writer's missionary experience.
