A further hypothesis is that there is an identifiable developmental process which is applicable to corporate as well as to individual growth and development. Assuming that such an identifiable developmental process exists, it then follows that this process can be used as both a descriptive and prescriptive tool to determine whether or not a specific corporate group in the Christian community, together with its leadership, is developing in a wholesome way. The application which is addressed in this project is to the community of the congregation. The project is itself an integration of previous years of study and learning units for the Doctor of Ministry degree. It is a method for doing the EMR with a small group for a period of six weeks, with emphasis on a biblical and theological understanding of Christian stewardship.  The intention is to provide more depth and involvement in the mission of the congregation, resulting in increased member participation and support.  A pilot test was conducted at Grace Lutheran Church (Wyndmoor, PA), resulting in significant increases in pledges of time, abilities and resources. Such traditional approaches to students in Christian schools as classroom Bible teaching and chapel services are not functioning effectively in modern Japan. From his own experience, the author proposes a new approach of volunteer work programs formed by small groups.  When they are thrown into an entirely new life situation students ask existential questions.  The way is then open for teachers to explain meanings of the Christian message. The theories of Erikson, Fowler and others provide the basis for discussions.  The role of the teacher is crucial in this approach. Culturally based differences in styles of worship, leadership, music and outreach are measured through a t-test.  Differences in orientation result in the polarization of the groups. The author conducted training sessions which involved lay members of the congregation.  They in turn led meetings in private homes to ascertain what needs people thought the church could help fill.
