Initially a survey tool was sent to 70 parish teams across the US. The questionnaire asked for information to study the make-up of a team, while asking each person to define team ministry, the strengths and weaknesses of this ministry and several questions asking about the group's interaction associated with decision-making, conflicts, power and authority. The research shows that teams define themselves differently. Yet all groups agreed that much dialogue and intense work is needed if they are to become a team. The more successful teams allowed room for individual differences, encouraged group interaction and used skills to help them deal with conflicts. Commitment to group dynamics is essential for a staff to become a more cohesive group. A team-building process was developed, focusing on: sharing personal histories; framework of collaboration; variety of gifts (using the MBTI); skills for conflict management; and termination and evaluation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717823551897600,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:24:25.099Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:05:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:11:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"dd3d5913-277f-4910-9bf0-fe5aea365093","accessControl_ssim":["4629d077-fdc7-49a9-b0e1-bbb5d84bf56f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping facilitators to enhance ministry through the application of small group dynamics in Bible study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:05:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:27:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e637df60-d69b-47f8-8f7a-523207277f13"],"hasLease_ssim":["aadf44a1-82d8-4b86-91d3-1268b6580165"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Daniel Boling"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul E Hall"],"publisher_tesim":["Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Christian education--Teaching methods","Group facilitation","Bible--Study","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author's thesis is that adult Bible study leaders trained to use interpersonal dynamics in the adult Bible study classroom will exhibit a noticeable difference in the style, content, and application of teaching. Lectio divina in its classic medieval, monastic form consisted of reading, meditation, prayer, and contemplation of the Scriptures. This classic approach, with the additional elements of journal keeping, the use of the Jesus Prayer, and the Jungian concept of 'active imagination' was taught to a group of six lay Episcopalians over a six-week period. Written responses from the participants show that this method yields practical results in a deepened prayer life, appreciation of Scripture, and a feeling of closeness to God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126967916953600,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:36:26.725Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:58:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:03:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"566331d0-f86e-4721-a5f4-5ca5dec62192","accessControl_ssim":["32bae2b9-c1d2-4a89-bb7a-206233c6a9ba"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The evaluation and improvement of small group ministry at Hope Evangelical Free Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:58:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:39:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b4b4be54-664a-4ae8-b7f0-3b138d288903"],"hasLease_ssim":["a2cd0709-4f25-48ba-829a-5708c5a9ca85"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William C Shereos"],"keyword_tesim":["Religious surveys"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University"],"subject_tesim":["Church group work","Hope Evangelical Free Church (Springfield, Mo)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["No abstract"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716523669979136,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:03:45.436Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:58:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:31:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5084b97f-821f-4020-9ec8-2abe548fdd0d","accessControl_ssim":["2c50f551-38d3-4874-8e25-b6465f3d6a8a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The renewal effect upon the congregation by small groups using an adaptation of John Wesley's band model"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:58:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:29:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f5c4e3d5-159a-426b-accf-174ea3f02764"],"hasLease_ssim":["2797c6b8-ed0e-4475-8bc1-d3f07823cfb8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["V James Mannoia"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Forbis Lee Kivett"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Wesley, John, 1703-1791","Spiritual formation","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation focused on the cause-and-effect relationship which numerous authors have said exists between small groups that experience spiritual renewal and the onset of renewal in the larger congregation. Five small groups participated in a ten-month program of spiritual formation using John Wesley's 'band' model. A questionnaire was administered to the small groups and the rest of the congregation before and after the program. The small groups experienced significannt spiritual renewal but the remainder of the congregation did not. Thus, the potential for church renewal is enhanced if additional members become active in small groups."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134192149463040,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:31:16.290Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:53:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:28:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"25c42c78-aa36-4f40-9786-ed484c907930","accessControl_ssim":["75943976-0b98-485d-bb90-baffd7ea1a8f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["How 'Groups With Purpose' stimulate spiritual formation in a local church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:53:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:14:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a00c4587-9215-47df-84ec-ba5f64f29c67"],"hasLease_ssim":["13c86936-e0a9-49fe-a4b3-5cc18a85eccf"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["J Steven Harper"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Virgil L Stauffer"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Wesley, John, 1703-1791","Methodist class meetings","Spiritual life","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project assumes that small groups are more effective when they are formed in response to a clearly defined need. Each group should be unique in method and format. This work refutes the concept that there exists any one 'right group' that is capable of ministering to all people and to every type of need. The author finds the basis for his thesis in the biblical record. He determines that small group ministry would be more effective if it used the principles and methods of modern schools of therapy. John Wesley's theology and methodology that concern the class meeting and the society guide this project. The author updates this method to coincide with the needs of a twentieth century society. The paper includes a description of a 'Groups With Purpose' project in one local church and a design for establishing and maintaining such a ministry in a body of believers. The paper concludes with a discussion of unresolved questions. It conjectures that 'Groups With Purpose' could be a viable ministry in a church of any size if the philosophy is carefully understood and applied."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134003912245248,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:28:16.773Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:50:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:39:40Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8622c56f-5a86-4e90-a4ce-c7491b84cf62","accessControl_ssim":["b5bfeda8-346e-477e-adab-f32bcaae1ea9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a methodology for inclusive communion practice in a united church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:50:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:05:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e7a670c6-9b1e-4018-b010-ae0f422973cd"],"hasLease_ssim":["3421508b-576f-44f2-92e7-c3721c787bd9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John E Wilson"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph E Filer"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Lord's Supper--Reformed Church","Bible--Study","Church group work","Lord's Supper--Methodist Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is designed to unify the communion traditions of a united church that is related to two different denominations (United Methodist and Presbyterian).
