It does not look at individual groups but rather the dynamics involved in the overall ministry as it is implemented and run within a local church. The thesis begins with a look at the biblical basis for community and the need to understand its role in small group ministry. Pentecostals have emphasized the personal work of the Holy Spirit but not appreciated the Spirit's role in building community. An overview of contemporary small group models is presented. The organizational factors are derived from Bolman and Deal's work in Reframing Organizations. The four organizational frames or lens are structural, human resource, political, and symbolic. Each area is examined with a view to considering the impact on running a small group ministry. Small groups exist within the context of an entire church system and therefore interact and respond to leadership and what is taking place in the congregation. Six PAOC churches in Ontario were interviewed for this study. There are three main categories of churches: those with small groups, those of small groups and those in a transition phase. The author discovered that each type of church has particular challenges with respect to the organizational factors that are highlighted. Small group ministry can be successful in each context if executive leadership pays attention to the appropriate organizational factors."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132273389600768,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:00:46.418Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:54:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:28:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2615077f-51e8-4a00-8906-9e912d3989e3","accessControl_ssim":["7e37fdb5-4b7d-4745-bd35-7e4c4982bfa4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The gyroscope model: developing a culture of student ownership in youth ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:54:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:15:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["103f5092-855d-4c07-bca4-d7712605cab2"],"hasLease_ssim":["f475925d-19dc-4a44-b02e-39ce5bfa88cc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["William F Murray"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert D Rienow"],"keyword_tesim":["Tests and measurements in religion"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project proposes that a youth leader can intentionally develop a group culture that challenges young people to engage in ministry, service, and leadership. The leaders were trained to accomplish these purposes by learning a transitioning process which emphasized effective teamwork. The process of accomplishing the purpose of the project began with researching transitional approaches which have been used to transition Bible study groups into cell groups. Research focused on transitional methods that assist in changing from existing organizational structures into new organizational structures. The next stage of the project involved developing training materials for the purpose of equipping selected leaders to transition their small groups from Bible study small groups into purpose-driven, team-based cell groups. The materials were developed using a defined standard that is described in William R. Yount's book entitled Created to Learn. The final stage of the project involved the recruitment and training of selected Bible study leaders. All current Bible study leaders were invited to participate in the training process. The selected leaders who were trained consisted of those who agreed to attend all training sessions. Ongoing exposure to the importance of the Christian spiritual disciplines will produce a congregation of mature members who advance the Kingdom of God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Beeson Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["15a18942-6151-49a8-8979-cd138c6b47cc"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127315878510592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:41:58.567Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:11:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:18:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"45bc0817-b756-4ac0-abc9-f363475402e0","accessControl_ssim":["00c887f7-6084-4686-9fb7-bebda37b20d8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Glimpses of grace: peer theological reflection toward renewed ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:11:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:09:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["59484212-6003-4c50-9921-f709b4efc921"],"hasLease_ssim":["a9ff22c5-91bd-4864-aa66-d5deeacc5ec3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Julieanne S Hallman"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Henrietta D Aiello"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Change","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to engage people of faith, by bringing them together in small groups, to experience the import of theological reflection on their practice of ministry. The project invited lay people and clergy, engaged in the praxis of ministry to form a small peer group, to make a covenant as a group, to write theological reflections for shared discussion and group discussion and group reflection, and to move through a process of evaluation of this group experience in light of their ministries and faith lives. One of the assertions of this project is that people of faith and ministry, when engaged in theological reflection with peers realize a transformation of their faith life and in their praxis of ministry. And two, peers whose ministries and faith lives have been transformed by their experiences in peer theological reflection through God's grace will then become vehicles of transformation to the church at large. It is in the glimpses of grace that we experience God's self-revelation to us and are blessed."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133406816370689,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:18:47.338Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:11:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:31:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1dc82b02-6455-402f-b237-8357cddd373a","accessControl_ssim":["f1afd2c5-59a7-454c-aa62-e1bd49f54c0c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Healing the olivetree: an experiment in Jewish-Christian dialog in metropolitan Detroit"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:11:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:00:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["00c3536c-39d3-4c63-b8b9-16d3893a83b0"],"hasLease_ssim":["e9451792-5411-4b5c-89ca-92939638ed59"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Walter Kime"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Daniel R Shepherd"],"publisher_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Judaism","Interfaith relations","Christianity","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The goal of this project was to equip members of Olive Branch (a Christian study group) to initiate redemptive dialog with Jewish acquaintances.
