The author deals with the following issues: (1) The legitimacy of such dialog in the context of urban ministry, (2) the theological conception underlying such dialog (Paul Tillich's 'method of correlation,' and Douglas John Hall's conception of a contextualized theology), and (3) examples of such dialog that begins with novels of Philip Roth, Paul Auster, and John Updike. The author describes the reactions of a study group to whom he presented his ideas and whose participants consisted of active church members and church leaders (The Montreat study group). He also describes and analyzes the responses of ten secular persons--Germans and Americans--whom he asked to fill out a questionnaire (The Questionnaire). Finally, the author develops guidelines for a dialog-oriented, contextualized urban ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126798294056960,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:33:44.959Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:54:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:49:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5cb5a939-c212-48c9-9c25-39c9756083ae","accessControl_ssim":["9eb266c3-cdbb-4781-a201-4b7424eef78c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Arts and theology integrated: pottery ministry-creation, redemption and sacramental presence"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:54:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:51:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2d4b53f2-0b94-4bac-b43b-07eba12717e7"],"hasLease_ssim":["d90defc0-495a-4c8f-bc49-a229e011d4d6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Catherine A Kapikian"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Writings of theologians John Calvin, Paul Tillich, Michael Polanyi, Douglas John Hall, and artists M. C. Richards, Paulus Berehnson, Catherine Kapikian, and Daniel de Montmollin, Brother of Taize, are considered. Church members, staff, and participants in More than a meal program at Idlewild Church, a program for persons who are homeless or living in compromised situations, were invited to join a series of pottery classes, resulting in nearly sixty persons working together every week, over a seven-week period, concluding with an exhibit of 652 finished pots.
