The team approach within the caring community seems to fit this need. The 'team' will be an interdisciplinary team whose goal is to provide a more effective pastoral care. As an ordained clergy in the United Methodist Church, one of my biggest frustrations has always been that the 'job' is bigger than one individual can successfully accomplish. The old adage 'two heads are better than one' rings true to me for Christian ministry. Through the years, many have felt that the laity understands pastoral care as the sole duty of the paid clergy. The scriptures clearly show that Jesus did not understand ministry as an individual endeavor, but as a team approach as he sent his disciples out to minister in pairs. Also, Jesus said, 'When two or more are gathered in my name, I am in the midst of them.' This is an expression of community gathering in Christ's name and ministering not alone, but with Christ in their midst. The chief question for this project is: How effectively can a small rural United Methodist congregation embrace the team approach to pastoral care?"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721952978403328,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:30:03.228Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:22:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:59:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7e027703-962d-4171-9cbe-6d29874e8c15","accessControl_ssim":["0800974f-b60f-437b-9022-e303c576a64e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing and implementing a process for selecting and mobilizing small group leaders"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:22:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:50:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5f360d96-3445-42ac-9935-e8b2a7aa0c26"],"hasLease_ssim":["440b243b-357d-4d17-a8d9-079f4d02cc9c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Kon Hwon Yang"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Byung-Sam Yoon"],"publisher_tesim":["Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Christian education of adults","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The theme of this project is that the activity of small group of a church, which can be corresponded to the cell the basic unit of a body, is the essential element for churches to grow continuously in both qualitative and quantitative aspects. The project director utilized these resources to produce the lessons used to equip the selected group. The second phase was to develop a seminar, including lesson plans and a student workbook. The final phase of the project involved implementing the seminar for the initial training of the selected group. Leaders who participated in a thirteen-week small group used the Renovation of the heart curriculum by Dallas Willard. The participants completed pre and post-assessment surveys to ascertain whether the small group impacted the leaders and whether the goals of the project were met. As a result, leaders developed personal visions for spiritual formation, and indicated a desire to participate in future opportunities for individual and church-wide spiritual growth through small groups."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["beb93775-0b27-4cc6-9fb0-f2ad62e68517"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131106770157568,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:42:13.843Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:11:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:22:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ac501023-ddc9-4a73-87da-bbd7467bc910","accessControl_ssim":["2e8cb3a5-d76f-4ac8-bcd6-e492156fce59"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Small group storytelling in the midst of transitioning"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:11:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:06:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cc23a9de-7a50-465b-b6fe-04c51031bae7"],"hasLease_ssim":["067f06ed-166a-40c2-923b-54c6071d9f00"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lovett H Weems"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The method of study was qualitative, using a small group structure of four pastors in the United Methodist tradition. It applied the use of interview, journal, and questionnaire. The results showed a marked improvement in the perceived awareness of one's felt presence with God.
