To explore the role of denominations and discipleship, this thesis analyzes the relationship between traditional and contemporary forms of discipleship and denominational vitality. Specifically, it examines the role of the Advent Christian denomination in the lives of a group of worshippers at Northside Community Church. Using adult learning theory and social constructivism, this study reveals how one group of believers has constructed their organizational identities within the Advent Christian denomination and how relationships with other disciples who proclaim to follow Jesus Christ impact their system of beliefs. Utilizing Northside Community Church as an example, this thesis demonstrates that denominational churches can thrive and succeed in the 21st century if they are willing to pursue commonalities rather than a focus on doctrinal differences."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128953127174144,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:07:59.969Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:16:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:25:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cad76819-6e34-44ac-9c73-461d31f683f9","accessControl_ssim":["9b1925cf-1783-4e93-b9ac-e31fd11b2fcc"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["I love to tell the story: congregational narrative in evangelism"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:16:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:57:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["534b4cb0-9cf9-4d9d-960a-e6e6e3dbda8d"],"hasLease_ssim":["3d95d602-bce2-4f67-b16d-15becdaf243c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis A Parks"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Considering that many churches are declining or have plateaued, this study sought to discover practical, effective strategies and techniques that have contributed to overall church growth by baptism and conversion. The author asked what these practices were, how they were taught, and how they were modeled by the leadership. The author's research preceding the case study gives a review and foundation from the early church's teaching and experience in evangelism, discipleship, missions, pastoral leadership, and church growth to the present. A closer look was given at the causes and effects of little to no obedience and commitment to the Great Commission. A significant finding in the case study was that even though the two selected churches were different in age of the church, style of worship, and emphasis on missions abroad, both placed high emphasis on the importance of conversion and baptism."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129657424216064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:19:11.639Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:12:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:08:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"aeb45306-0264-455b-8b71-f6dbd3aa1b71","accessControl_ssim":["b113de1a-4056-47a9-b0c8-a33527cf2f80"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The homogeneous unit principle revisited: African immigrant churches in North America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:12:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:10:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6e77af5c-d8ed-4941-8e78-8beef262bb98"],"hasLease_ssim":["e8646f54-d535-4457-b8da-1ec4343072d6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Keith E Eitel"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Isaac Bong Mbeng"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Race relations","McGavran, Donald Anderson, 1897-1990","African Evangelical Baptist Church (Grand Prairie, Tex)","Church growth","Ethnicity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The homogeneous unit principle is one of the most important elements in Donald Anderson McGavran's church growth theory. The researcher is convinced thta the parameters have been met which are necessary to revisit the homogeneous unit principle."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132756025016320,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:08:26.695Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:07:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:19:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6d34e49a-5bde-4fe6-aba8-a806a56d7ac5","accessControl_ssim":["d4e48b58-3f72-450e-a12d-65783e21c3f6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["New glue: the unique principles and practices for turnaround churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:07:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:19:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d438bc41-8619-43ea-a473-b6942f07f87c"],"hasLease_ssim":["76b264ad-5cba-4d3e-9019-df080dac9c9e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Greg W Hill"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Philip Alan Scott"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Repentance","Church renewal","Religion and culture","Church growth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Eighty percent of U.S. churches are stagnant or declining, the influence of post-modernity is increasing, and leaders need to acquire new methods. The study employed qualitative and quantitative methods via surveys and interviews of missionaries, church leaders, and lay members within the EMC. The study determined that there has been a decline with multiple mitigating factors. Decentralization, lack of visionary leadership, and the absence of a biblical model of recruitment within the local church were identified as major causes of a decline in missions."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125287685062656,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:09:44.331Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:51:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:00:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6e27671b-c778-40ed-a6b4-c7619242e1df","accessControl_ssim":["ab7b6778-3225-4d8e-b26f-eb0b3493a152"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Living through the storm: stories of life and faith at Belle-Terrace Presbyterian Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:51:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:21:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a92373d8-7ab4-40ee-9f2b-887bdcb4a17f"],"hasLease_ssim":["38a282a2-abf9-4913-b307-60bc2ec5b6f8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Marcia Y Riggs"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Melvin G Lowry"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Church renewal","Church growth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project proposes to answer the question, 'How or in what ways can living through the storms of life help a congregation renew its sense of purpose, meaning, and mission - missio dei?'
