Sonrise was planted in 2003 and is located in the western section of Mobile County. This area of Mobile is growing rapidly with a variety of homes ranging from starter homes from young families to high end custom-built homes for the more affluent. With all of this growth in the community, Sonrise is experiencing steady growth. In spite of the present growth, the project director sees a need to establish a systematic plan to maintain healthy church growth through prayer, evangelism, and discipleship. The project director will evaluate community data, do research in historical and contemporary church growth, and do research in the current organizational structure of Sonrise. Like many churches today, it is in danger of becoming internally focused. Because the church faces new challenges in an ever increasing post-modern culture, the project director attempted to begin a conversation about the positive impact on evangelism that an externally focused church can have. To begin this conversation, the project director taught a six-session seminar to twelve adult leaders of Seminary Baptist Church and preached a four-sermon series. Five AME churches participated.  Each participant preached three sermons detailing the legacy of the AME Church.  The author's goal was to compile and review data obtained by interviewing project participants, lay and clergy, as to the influence of such preaching on church growth. The process for this study included three parts: 1) a survey to determine the congregation's knowledge and attitudes toward personal testimonies, 2) a twelve-week period where personal testimonies were included in the Sunday morning worship services, and 3) a survey following the twelve-week period to determine how knowledge and attitudes may have changed.  Attendance records were also studied.  Attendance records may indicate growth. The author followed this parish from a time of low self-esteem to a position of vitality and less dependence on the diocese. The tool used to observe this change in this parish was ethnographic research and a focus on intentionality of worship, tradition, spirituality and story. Five churches were chosen, pastors of these churches became a part of a study group, mentors were assigned to each church, mentors became a part of a district vitalization team. One of the causes for this is a preaching approach that targets a single, usually older, generation. A Biblical and sociological foundation for planting churches was established, followed by an examination of supportive existing literature. Recent demographics, supplemented with interviews of ministry and civic leaders, provided sociological support. The resulting strategy for planting churches in Wyoming included methods to provide spiritual empowerment, community evaluation, leader evaluation, leader equipping, leader empowerment, and parent partnerships.
