The training was derived from the growth model practiced at Saddleback Community Church, as it was implemented in Toronto, Canada.  The dissertation reviews literature relevant to church growth theory and strategy.  It includes two data gathering surveys.  These surveys measure growth prior to and after the training.  The model provided good insight into training lay people for ministry as church planters. This project considers one congregation's exercise in experiential learning, from within their context, that promoted the church's missional discernment and community life.  Nine congregational members joined with the outside researcher to form a community-based action research team. The project focused on analyzing the church and community demographics, the church's leadership structure, the church's organizations, and the ministries of the church.  The components of the project included: (1) the research of healthy church growth characteristics; (2) the gathering of available healthy church growth models for analysis; (3) the conducting of church surveys and questionnaires with selected leaders; (4) the design, administration, and evaluation of training sessions with the leadership team; and (5) the planning and creation of the strategy.  The final step of the project was the presentation of the strategy to the congregation. The evaluation of the project included expert opinions of the researched models, the equipping materials, and the formation of the strategy. It presents church statistics from 1991-2000 and surveys three distinct groups of Anglicans: a- Anglicans (Waangilikana Damu), Irregular Anglicans (Waangilikana Jina) and Anglicans 'in diaspora'. Analysis indicates important pastoral factors to be addressed if growth is to be accelerated. Project presents theological reflection and pastoral response to the data. It focused on the pastors' personal, professional, and spiritual formation. This research was an evaluative study in a descriptive mode utilizing a pre-, mid-, and post-test design with no comparison.
