Through a series of remembering sessions with the congregation, stories, and memories were gathered.  From these stories and memories four factors of growth and three factors of decline were identified. The thesis was that a selected group of adult leaders could be guided to reclarify their church's biblical mission and purpose, study their church's history and community, and develop a three-year ministry strategy.  Twelve adult leaders participated in a twelve-week program of study and planning.  The primary tools used to evaluate the project were evaluation forms, recognized practitioner, and pastoral observation. Prior to my arrival, the church leadership had decided to embark upon a period of strategic planning in order to evaluate its ministries and set future direction.  The church leadership and I decided to work together in a collaborative strategic planning process, which we termed ReVision, to improve church health and stimulate church growth.  We decided to use the approach to church life and health called Natural Church Development (NCD) as the primary model and description of church health. The project at Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church involved the administration of the NCD survey on three occasions--before my arrival as the new senior pastor and the commencement of the strategic planning process, three months after my arrival and still before the formal commencement of the strategic planning process, and eighteen months after my arrival, which was fifteen months into the strategic planning process.  Following the release of the results of the third NCD survey, the members of the ReVision Taskforce were given a survey containing four open-ended questions intended to allow them to reflect on the planning process and the congregation's health changes. The study concludes that outposting by particular congregations can work and should be encouraged in addition to or as viable alternatives to denominational strategies. He concluded that congregational regeneration requires a shift in attitude that intentionally gives primacy to the apostolic root of Christendom, rather than its evolved traditions and expressions. Intentionally giving precedence to Christ and his ministry is a mandatory antecedent to congregational regeneration. Churches were selected at random from the Association of Christian Schools International and the Georgia Association of Christian Schools.  Churches selected differed geographically, denominationally, and were of varying sizes.  The data collected was compared with standard church growth principles and literature to determine the barriers to church growth experienced by these ministries. The ChurchSmart Resources' questionnaire for the pastor and thirty questionnaires for the lay people were utilized.  The eight factors of a healthy church were derived from Christian Schwartz's 'Natural Church Development.'  Seventy-nine interviewees participated between May 22 and September 12, 2000.  An optional ChurchSmart Resources 'Releasing Your Church's Potential' seminars were also facilitated. The eight respondent churches were asked to form an implementation team to execute the recommendations by the ChurchSmart Resources personnel and the researcher.
