This study is composed of a qualitative design using a semi-structured approach to interview six experienced Chinese pastors. This study concludes that sound hermeneutics leads to sound homiletics. Spiritual formation consists of stringent spiritual disciplines and a required development of godly character within preachers. The project included quantitative and qualitative pre-test, post-test design that assessed knowledge relating to participants' Christian identity.  The pre-test assessment showed participants had limited knowledge in the project's goals, along with little trust of a small group experience. Through a survey, 90% of the churches have some common needs: full time co-workers, being good witnesses, knowing how to evangelize, and adult Sunday school. These problems are mainly related to the lack of Bible teaching and discipleship training. The result shows that proceeding with teaching of personal evangelism and training bears important influence on the growth of believers. The Timothy Three Step Discipleship Training makes a 'seeker' gradually becoming a trainer of others through a 'two way' training relationship. The researcher's project serves as a guide to awaken highly dysfunctional and dying churches--through a theological revisioning--to the mission of God within a culture where the Church is increasingly marginalized.  To test the effectiveness of the researcher's project, two churches were selected as case studies. This thesis too recounts the political, social, and religious tensions that existed in pre-Revolutionary North Carolina and examines the role that the regulator movement and the Battle of Alamance would play in stifling the evangelistic efforts of the Separate Baptists in the frontier regions of the colony during that period. In order to gauge whether there has been such a drift, the author of this thesis has decided to use the local church context of Memphis, TN, as a litmus test for the Western church at large, and has invited a group of churches representative of the diverse church context in Memphis to participate. The conclusion of this thesis reveals that there has indeed been a drift among many churches in Memphis from the biblical standard of discipleship.
