This dissertation is divided into three main parts. A literature review examines what has been written about the founding of other Bible institutes along with the Bible institutes' contribution to the discipleship process. The research procedure defines the case study subject selection process and criteria. It also describes the survey questionnaire and its use. The case studies report the information gathered primarily through first hand interviews and local archival church records. The data was recorded, reviewed and reported so that any church that wishes to start a Bible institute may use this dissertation as a guide to address and overcome the challenges they may face. This project concluded that Bible institutes can contribute to a church's discipleship program. Participants can get a thorough and meaningful exposure to the Word of God, which, in turn, helps in their personal spiritual growth and ministry preparedness. Future research is welcomed in this field. Though an ample body of literature exists concerning the history of Bible institutes and Christian education as a whole, little information has been written that specifically addresses the challenges faced by churches starting Bible institutes and how those challenges were overcome. This research makes an original contribution in this area by identifying those challenges and offering solutions which other churches may follow."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130047236538368,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:23.393Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:12:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:33:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8733794c-7b99-4fc8-9fcc-08eb53c9c8ff","accessControl_ssim":["a4772d63-c7f6-4adf-ab96-f3d8a50aef05"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Transitioning from minister of administration to executive pastor"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:12:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:06:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c1239a6e-c4e7-467b-a915-c1e8da2f1663"],"hasLease_ssim":["cc485952-70ab-4eae-927c-f4646f1e78e5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David R Fletcher"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Larry G Hoyle"],"keyword_tesim":["Clergy--Performance standards"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Clergy--Office","Organizational sociology","Church management","Social groups"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of this paper is 'Changes in ministry and leadership needed when transitioning from church administration to executive pastor.' Five hypotheses guided this study: people from the mother church leave to plant the new church; church planters have a relationship with the mother church before starting a new church; daughter churches are planted locally in relation to the mother church; daughter churches are financially supported by the mother church for a period of time; and the people from the daughter church fully support the church planter. The hypotheses were supported by the literature and case study. As a result of these case studies, seven principles surfaced. The first principle is finding the 'right' person. Without the 'right' person, the rest of the principles do not matter. Principle number two is assessment, which verifies that he, is indeed the 'right' person for the job. Principle number three is the five percent rule: every new church that is planted will give five percent of its offerings to an escrow account for a minimum of three years. This is where the money comes from to plant new churches. Principle number four is partnering for the purpose of sharing resources. Principle number five is that a church plant becomes a fully functional church on its launch day, which allows the bookkeeping systems of the church to include paying the salary of the church planter from day one. Principle number six is raising support, which takes the pressure off the church planter to raise his full salary. Principle seven is networking, which makes partnering easier and contributes to the nonfinancial support of the planters. It is hoped that these principles will work to make a difference in the way churches are started and that they will be tested in different places by other networks of churches that desire to create movements of church planting churches."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130058766680064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:34.389Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:43:52Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:59:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"57c568b1-721b-4332-88b4-abbd6a5da1bb","accessControl_ssim":["5f151dbe-e3fb-4344-80db-79152ae63288"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Improving pastors' administrative and organizational skills: a plan for the Concord District of the A. The study looked at three models being used by United Methodist churches for multi-site ministry: purchase and build, church merger, and existing space/rental. The study used semi-structured interviews with focus groups from three multi-site United Methodist churches. The study focused on the decision making process in becoming a multi-site church, the transitioning process from a single to multi-site church, the experience of being a multi-site church, and the relationship to the United Methodist hierarchy. The study found that most churches do not start with the intention of becoming a multi-site church, but are influenced by various factors, including some type of crisis, a strong evangelistic emphasis, or a powerful vision. Regarding the transition process, the study found that a sufficient amount of time and careful planning were necessary for success. Key factors were a realistic understanding of the difficulties, the importance of leadership, communication within the congregation and outside, effective advertising, and the use of missioners. The study found that there were struggles as well as benefits in the practice of multi-site ministry. Leadership and leadership development were important factors. Benefits included reaching different demographics and providing variety in worship and ministry styles. Struggles included relating to other churches of the same denomination, dealing with finances, and maintaining a sense of unity. Regarding the relationship with the hierarchy, the study found little information. Most churches experienced minimal help or contact with church officials except in cases of conflict with other churches. There was often misunderstanding with the multi-site model. Greater participation by district superintendents and bishops could be expected with the merger model. The study concluded that multi-site ministry is one effective way that United Methodist churches can expand their ministry and outreach."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131326267523072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:45:43.172Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:39:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:33:00Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"133729b0-b623-459e-96a6-77a7f53fde94","accessControl_ssim":["bc2f7ecf-2c45-4fda-82dc-df19ad322927"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Motivating staff to mission: an analysis of church staff team leadership"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:39:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:40:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b39ee4ae-ad63-4080-a23d-664c9920f1d8"],"hasLease_ssim":["641d8eea-7836-4d00-9490-ae91c0c81f23"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Bob Burns"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Owen L Tarantino"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary (St. Louis, MO)"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Clergy--Religious life","Trust","Presbyterian Church--Clergy","Church management","Social groups"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study was to discover how pastors lead their paid staff toward mission. The study used semi-structured interviews with four pastors in the Presbyterian Church in America and two from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The analysis focused on three areas: how to build trust, what understanding of relational systems are helpful in leading a team, and how personal spiritual growth affects team leadership. The study found that trust is established as the leader practices consistency of character, motivating the team toward a clear vision, developing good communication, mutual accountability, and building an atmosphere of authentic joy. Church staff teams were often strengthened and trust built through difficult situations. The study also found that it is vital for effective leaders to understand relational systems.
