Exodus"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This Doctor of Ministry Project researched six pastors in Western North Carolina to see how they balance administrative duties and evangelistic efforts to produce a healthy church. The project began from my experience of pastoring three churches in the area and experiencing the struggles firsthand. It then looked into the Scriptures to understand the historical accounts and theology of administration and evangelism to comprehend the responsibilities of pastors. Further research was conducted from literature to evaluate what others say about the subject and if they have discovered this problem.  The data was collected through qualitative research of interviews with six pastors. The interviews were conducted with ten questions to discover how they balance administrative duties and evangelistic efforts as a pastor. The interviews were analyzed and synthesized from their experiences, theology, and literary viewpoints for the conclusions.The research results showed a problem among pastors who have administrative demands on them because of the expectation of the congregation or the lack of others willing to take responsibility. The research also showed that evangelism efforts fail to reach the community because of the heavy administrative load of the pastor. The final results show, pastors that do have a balance, revamped or updated how administration is done, to simplify it for both him and the congregation. The process of updating the administration did require time for trust to build between the pastor and the congregation. The study begins by demonstrating the debate over the use and interpretation of the BCO within the PCA. It introduces the debate by putting the BCO into the context of the Constitution of the PCA, examining its relation to the Westminster Standards, and how subscription to the Standards affects operating under the BCO. Having put the BCO into the larger context of the Constitution of the PCA, it explores the current debate over polity before examining the resources available to illuminate the BCO. The study moves then to the basic biblical principles of Presbyterian church government. It investigates the headship of Christ as the foundational principle of Church government before working out the implications of his headship in jure divino government and the regulative principle. An examination of Acts 15 shows Christ’s headship in action in the life of the Church, leading to an exploration of the fundamental Scriptural principles that underlie and shape Presbyterian polity. The study then surveys the historical development of the BCO from its beginnings in the Colonial era to the current time to see the significant influences that shaped it. This historical context gives the framework to understand both the larger shape of the Church laid out by the BCO and some of the individual provisions. By writing in the form of a pastoral essay, I examine the privacy issues that exist in common church practices. I then look specifically at the Prayers of the People as they have been developing in the Evangelical and Reformed tradition of the United Church of Christ to highlight the growing need to have worship leaders and planners examine their Prayers of the People to see if there are privacy issues present in their worship. I seek to highlight the very real possible damages that can be caused through the unauthorized giving out of personal information in many of these prayers, while also pointing out the possible qualities of that prayer time that can be lost in an attempt to completely safeguard the privacy rights of all who are involved. I then suggest steps that can be taken to preserve public sharing during the Prayers of the People while simultaneously attempting to respect people's right to privacy. Over the next five-to-ten years, decisions made by the local church will either prepare it for closure or seize the future for the Kingdom. The Western Church loses the second-largest generation when the Baby Boomers [Boomers] either die or become unable to continue attending and serving.Is the church prepared? Is the church constructing a succession plan for when the Boomers are gone? The church will experience extreme shifts during this transition in leadership style, methodology, authenticity, polity, structure, and behavior. This project sought to understand the complexities of the coming generational transition and provide a starting point through the development of the change readiness of First Baptist Church [FBCC], Crowley, Texas.The results of the project revealed an increase in change readiness for organizational succession planning after a sermon series designed to promote understanding and readiness toward change. First, a literature review surveys writings on leadership succession from both the secular and Christian perspectives, with an examination on the biblical insights and a theological framework for leadership succession. The second part of the dissertation covers the qualitative research procedure used in this project through the case study method and its strengths and weaknesses. The third part of the dissertation reports the case study research findings from the three case studies Chinese heritage churches that have completed what is deemed as successful internal senior pastor’s succession considering the four hypotheses. The final section draws out the applications from the research that can be applied to any church considering internal leadership succession with a special focus on the needs of Chinese heritage churches in America.
