The pastor and session proposed a hypothesis which was that the establishment of a positive sense of self-worth, which would come about as a result of better self-understanding, agreement of purpose and setting of goals, would reverse the decline.  The hypothesis was measured by surveys. Visible increased activity was noted as was a stronger financial picture, as well. Although the pre- and post-tests were paper and pencil tests, they were designed to test hands-on capabilities in time management, church finances, church business meetings, lay training, and office procedures.
