These churches may, however, be incorrectly applying general societal concerns about commitment to Christians who are seeking commitment. A substantial group of people in the current study desired to become church members, but, because of church leadership de-emphasis of formal membership, had limited avenues to express this element of their faith. Designed to assist church leaders and parishioners in finding new understanding and meaning in formal church membership, the study offers a biblical and theological guide for those struggling with the concept of church membership, as well as a review of significant literature relating to the subject. Two local churches were selected for a three hour seminar on church membership. Analysis of data revealed no antagonism to church membership; such antagonism may exist on the margins among those who would not attend such a seminar."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132801052966912,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:09:09.637Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:01:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:50:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"901c3785-c0f2-4c5b-b48b-1c6434d458a4","accessControl_ssim":["e43940bf-f6ef-4e2d-9d02-8e2a0825c592"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Assimilation into Hampton Falls First Baptist Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:01:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:21:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0e5e5dad-96ef-46f9-8ca1-d96883ef44cb"],"hasLease_ssim":["3a5f715e-8805-41b3-8a73-51debd632cec"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Raymond F Pendleton"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dean Raymond Glover"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Baptists--Membership","Congregations","Assimilation (Sociology)","Hampton Falls First Baptist Church (Hampton Falls, NH)","Baptists","Church membership"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis-project is a study of the assimilation process in use at the Hampton Falls (New Hampshire) First Baptist Church. The number who actually become involved and active members is a small percentage of the visitors who come each Sunday morning. The main consideration is not the number of visitors, but the number of regular attendees who choose involvement and membership or leaving the church. Visitors will continue to come to see what the church might hold for their particular needs and interests. However, assimilation does or does not occur most commonly among those who have begun regular attendance and seek either to deeper in their involvement or turn back and perhaps leave. Specially adapted questionnaires and interview instruments yielded results that are recorded and analyzed in the course of this study. Suggestions are made as to steps how church leaders might take to incorporate and assimilate individuals into service, ministry, and greater membership involvement. The formula of Worship, Instruction, Fellowship, and Evangelism (WIFE) is encouraged as a modus operandi for the Bride of Christ in this local setting."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131645965762560,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:50:48.059Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:07:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:04:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f98ebfa6-dcc2-48aa-8241-a193e2a7d134","accessControl_ssim":["72c7de5a-e2c1-4329-82d0-731d72d42e9a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping a new members committee to assimilate adult members into Pocahontas Baptist Church, Jackson, Mississippi"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:07:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:15:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1a05a56b-485d-47fa-8e16-1357d3a49798"],"hasLease_ssim":["d4e30410-9af2-4e73-a109-00556637e0fb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Mark Tolbert"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael R Bird"],"publisher_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Pocahontas Baptist Church (Jackson, Miss)","Church committees","Assimilation (Sociology)","Church membership"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to equip a New Members Committee to assimilate adult members into Pocahontas Baptist Church, Jackson, Mississippi. The project director began this equipping process by researching the different models use din assimilation. He used this knowledge to develop a workshop which included lessons outlining a specific assimilation process to be used by the New Members Committee to assimilate new adult members. This New Members Committee was divided into four teams: Contact, Concerns, Connect, and Commitment. Six workshop lessons, taught by the project director, equipped committee members to define assimilation, explain how assimilation occurs, identify obstacles to assimilation, and comprehend how spiritual growth is essential to the assimilation process.
