Four classes incorporated blessing based spiritual nurture elements: creating sacred space, hospitality, holy listening, building community, prayer, and Bible study. A strategic planning team, consisting of lay members, was invited to participate in the assimilation strategy process.  The project director leveraged strategic principles as well as assimilation principles to lead the team in the development of the strategy, in order to enable members at NABC to be more intentional with assimilation efforts. I used the phenomenological research method to document the living experience of ten members, proving that not every declining church is destined to die. The project director began this equipping process by researching the different models use din assimilation. He used this knowledge to develop a workshop which included lessons outlining a specific assimilation process to be used by the New Members Committee to assimilate new adult members. This New Members Committee was divided into four teams: Contact, Concerns, Connect, and Commitment. Six workshop lessons, taught by the project director, equipped committee members to define assimilation, explain how assimilation occurs, identify obstacles to assimilation, and comprehend how spiritual growth is essential to the assimilation process. Chapter one explores the character and fate of small membership churches in the twenty-first century. Chapter two reviews the history of small membership United Methodist churches in Maine. Chapter three introduces the district conference project, defines holy conferencing, and details the three events in the Mid-Maine District where transformation tools were taught to small membership churches. The focus of this project is to understand the theological rationale for unity among diversity within the church and to give principles of how a church can transition into a church for all people. As the United Methodist Church in particular continues its numerical decline there is a renewed effort to discover models for ministry that are actively and missionally engaging the communities they serve. This case study of Solid Rock United Methodist Church provides one such model. From the research five transferable insights emerged.
