The decline has affected all church affiliations, including Catholic, Protestant mainline, evangelical, Pentecostal, Anabaptist and independent churches of all sizes and ethnicities. In particular, Millennials, those in the age range of eighteen to twenty-nine years, have left the church in significant numbers or have never affiliated at all. The fastest growing segments of the American population are agnostics and atheists. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, with nearly eight hundred churches is considered a Bible belt with a long history of consistent attendance. This project will explore whether there is attendance decline in Lancaster County and, if so, what can be developed to reverse the trend. Reader responses to a series on the subject in the Lancaster Sunday News will be used to help determine the extent, if any. At the same time, pastors of fifty churches of varying sizes, ethnicities and doctrine will be interviewed to examine local patterns. Using research data on church growth and revitalization from around the country, suggestions and recommendations will be made to help reverse the trend in Lancaster County if decline is evident."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860305164894208,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:26:50.608Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:39:20Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:50:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"19f9b2ea-cb8a-42c9-9a33-4f209575f85d","accessControl_ssim":["bd98a843-d197-4f1f-bb45-0baff4e75f09"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Revival without revolution : the story of how a white, agricultural church became a multi-racial, multi-generational body of Christ"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:39:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:53:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fdd0ffb0-f62d-478e-827c-36a4b913424e"],"hasLease_ssim":["b849a85f-3a61-4393-b18a-c2e8faa9f803"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dennis Voskuil Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2015"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. With a rich and proud history as a flagship congregation in the Reformed Church in America, “First Church” has experienced a quarter of a century decline in membership, an exodus of younger families to more affluent areas in the Southwestern Suburbs of Illinois and into Northwest Indiana, and a lull in congregational morale amidst a rapidly diverse community that now is nearly 70% African American. Dynamics of sharp change experienced in racial migration resulting in a changing community, the legacy of past, consistorial leadership and in corporate worship haven given voice to charter a course for a future season of ministry. As a result of racial migration, conflict in worship and a growing sense of congregational despair, First Church was forced to confront their ecclesial mortality in their given context for ministry. Together, they entered into a corporate journey of transformation that changed their congregational composition and renewed their congregational structures and practices which have led to a more robust sense of their identity as God’s diverse people and their purpose in God’s kingdom. I have decided to interview her in particular, because she was an integral member of an historic Indo-Pentecostal family in the Church of God (Cleveland TN), in Trinidad. With her late husband, Edward D. Hasmatali, they brought the Church of God (CoG) to the island, and were deeply involved in leadership training and church planting. Indo-Trinidadian Pentecostalism seems to be somewhat of an overlooked area of academic study, thus in interviewing Starry, I will seek to uncover their experiences in ministry in Trinidad and Canada, particularly in relation to their historic connection to the Church of God. I have also chosen to concentrate upon Indo- Trinidadian Pentecostals, since they comprise a significant section of the population of that country."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717589208793088,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:20:41.613Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:57:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:08:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b6eef799-d729-4c92-b118-505525638ffc","accessControl_ssim":["8aba7442-9b04-44b5-858a-4e4e22d62891"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Indigenous African Demonic Deliverance and its Transference into Pentecostalism with Subsequent Refining: Ghana and its Diaspora as a Case Study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:57:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:24:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["19d7e87a-69b9-44d1-aa34-35636948c9a0"],"hasLease_ssim":["43dda8af-7330-4029-83dc-8e1b0aa6b9c7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Intercultural Studies"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Taylor Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Allan Effa Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2015"],"location_tesim":["South Africa","Africa","Ghana","Canada"],"resource_type_tesim":["Other Terminal Project"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Duane Sterling Sims M.A."],"subject_tesim":["Bible. The course raises the awareness level of what it means to be a church within a community, the importance of working toward vitality, and the grief process for parishioners when churches close or merge."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718188026429440,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:30:12.690Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:43:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:45:00Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fee9d52a-c494-4c21-8f3d-3074a283c025","accessControl_ssim":["1228c213-bdce-4a1c-9a82-dd53a11828b9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Selected case studies on how to revitalize a traditional church ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:43:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:25:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7bcbea72-31fd-47d4-b278-282d5b00a3ab"],"hasLease_ssim":["b946e2e1-cd4d-471b-8d85-e05b818a2ea5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Andrew B Seidel"],"year_tesim":["2015"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Timothy R Rogers"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church renewal"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation is an examination of the quality of leadership necessary to sustain revitalization in the traditional church. A case study model approach was used to gather data from three churches at least fifty years old that have undergone some form of revitalization. The leadership focus was twofold: first, inquiry was made on the kind of leadership structures or systems that the churches had in place, and second, consideration was given to the person of the senior leader: his strengths, weaknesses, and other personal traits. Several conclusions were reached throughout this study, with the overarching research conclusion being that church contexts that are best positioned for revitalization are ones in which both the leader and the leadership system can be described as healthy or pursuing greater health. With the understanding that God is the ultimate source of spiritual renewal, this study focuses on what we can control: the environment of leadership within the church. As such, consideration is given to exploring what healthy systems and healthy leaders might look like and to understanding the challenges that accompany this difficult work of revitalizing a traditional church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131288293343232,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:45:06.957Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
