Two of the prescriptions focused on aspects of governance. Ten months later, I accepted the Divine Call to Concordia Lutheran Church. The leadership informed me that my priority was to implement the Transforming Congregations Prescriptions. The scope of my study is limited to Concordia Lutheran Church. I will focus on the implementation of the prescriptions that dealt with vision, mission, and the governance at Concordia Lutheran Church. In the following sections, I will describe the problem, purpose, and process of this research.\r\nThe problem that is addressed is to revise the governance structure so that the congregation can fulfill its mission and understand the key issues in the Office of the Ministry that support the process. This project will not provide a new plan for congregational renewal. The purpose of this study is to provide lessons learned from Concordia Lutheran Church to other leaders who are working to renew declining congregations. It also seeks to provide insights from studying the Office of the Ministry that affect pastoral leadership. The process used to reach this goal is to implement, with the participation of the congregation, a new vision, mission, and governance model, develop lessons learned, and review the doctrine of the Office of the Ministry to understand the implications for pastoral leaders as well as congregations. The experiment will be evaluated by determining if the goals of Transforming Congregations Prescriptions were met. I will identify lessons learned through three semi-structured interviews with key participants in the process and by developing a philosophy of ministry statement. This will assist other leaders in their work to renew congregations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f49f809a-65b5-4566-bfbb-5756e01b6bc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","roger.peters@ctsfw.edu"],"_version_":1791135428273766400,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:50:55.149Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:07:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:28:41Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"dcb31162-ada2-424f-ba79-87066fd3b390","accessControl_ssim":["894fd479-5ea9-4d0a-bdfb-ef6831a15d79"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Biblical Examination of an Ontological Reading of Theology in Trinity, in the Believer and in Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:07:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:26:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["51b96cea-f81a-4964-8cb5-a3916a784e4b"],"hasLease_ssim":["003ab9ae-d296-42a4-a7c9-5e6e96e8b874"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Philosophy"],"discipline_tesim":["Theology"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Atlantic Coast Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Frank Moore Sr Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"location_tesim":["United States","France","United Kingdom"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Erwin Samuel Henderson"],"keyword_tesim":["Church (Ecclesiology)"],"subject_tesim":["Church renewal","Ministry","Christology","Bible--Theology","Theology, Doctrinal"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The rationale is to formulate the unique contribution that ontological thinking brings to understanding God in Trinity: in substance, in relationship and in function; the consequences for the believer through redefined relationship with the Trinity in the Person of Christ; and the rediscovery of ontological principles to be restored, in renewal of the Church of Jesus Christ. This proposal advocates that recovery of ontological truths on the grounds of the interrelationship and interaction of Trinity. Current trends, such as the subordinate-authority-submission and egalitarian debate are critiqued in the light of the ontological reading of Scripture. The recovery of apostolicity as an ontological attribute of Godhead provides significant insight and cohesion to the ontological Trinitarian proposal. The significance of how God produces existentially and ontologically His life within the believer will define humanity in being, through relationship to Godhead. Religious practices both biblical and extra-biblical are examined and considered to better understand the extent of the paradigmatic shift that occurs in the person of Jesus Christ. This proposal develops a fuller understanding of the composition of a human being in the image of God in ontological terms in contrast to the orthodoxy’s dichotomist, trichotomist assertions. The perspective of states in which a human being exists, culminate in the identification of the ‘πνευματικός’ believer as the sole form of legitimate existence that is biblically normalized and warranted. The ontological significance will also redefine church according to the nature and Person of Godhead, thereby widely reforming structures and functions according to ontological truths and practices. This argumentation has reconnected Church to the Trinity ontologically and demonstrated that Church utterly depends upon Trinitarian substance and operation to exist according to divine intentions.Emerging from this exegesis is a model of church: ontological and apostolic, originated, [re]sourced, and incarnate from the nature of Trinity, demonstrating undeniably that it is impossible for the Church of divine intent to exist outside of the three persons of the Godhead, she has no life of her own. Church is this incarnation because her origins, means, and object are of Godhead’s nature, intra-relationship, and operation; whether microcosm or macrocosm, her ontological existence in apostolic Godhead is the defining criterion. Learning how to navigate the dual enterprises of exploring politicized moral issues in a church community setting and fundamentally changing how a group dialogues requires deep examination of Christian morality, the ethical methodologies to assess it and make moral recommendations in group settings, and the group dynamics and dialogue / discernment models. With the deep social and political divide in the United States today, politically diverse churches like River Road Church, Baptist in Richmond, Virginia have often become silent on issues of moral importance that have become politicized, or have even split along secular political party lines, instead of seeking to find a Christian response to contemporary political and social issues through productive dialogue. This project sought to create a covenantal ethical discerning dialogue that produces a way of having a productive dialogue within church leadership that is theologically rich, intellectually serious, genuinely illuminating about moral issues, and that leaves the community intact. Ultimately, the project results seemed to indicate that such a model for discerning dialogue was necessary and helpful for church leaders, while also providing some insight to needed changes to the dialogue process."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://hdl.handle.net/10898/12329"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129441259225088,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:15:45.488Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:56:52Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:03:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ac7101f1-d606-4eaa-8db7-bb24ea385582","accessControl_ssim":["870b0f95-666c-4504-b153-a437b159812d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Biblical Examination of an Ontological reading of Theology, in Trinity, in the [Christian] Believer and in Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:56:51Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:06:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["790570bd-7e91-4e36-9b65-89137d8a7da4"],"hasLease_ssim":["bd0e7536-0e54-48e6-a61f-55869333d469"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Philosophy"],"discipline_tesim":["Theology"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Atlantic Coast Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Frank Moore Dr Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"location_tesim":["Malawi","United States","France","United Kingdom","Algeria"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Erwin Samuel Henderson Dr Ph.D."],"keyword_tesim":["Church (Ecclesiology)"],"subject_tesim":["Theology, Practical","Church renewal","Christology","Bible--Theology","Bible--Criticism, interpretation","Theology, Doctrinal"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Ontological theology considered in some theological works, was given little significance as a primary theme. The thesis attempts to restore prominence and cohesion of an ontological construct, whereby function and structure, are the subordinate product defined by the ontological theological perspective. The effects are far reaching for theological definitions of the essential nature of the Trinity, the believer and the church; representing a paradigmatic shift in theological understanding, affecting profoundly the nature existential Christocentric Christianity. The ontological theology of Trinity contrasts with the relational subordination, authority-submission proponents and opponents, in substance, in relationship and in function. The recovery of apostolicity as an ontological attribute of Godhead provides significant insight and cohesion to the ontological Trinitarian proposal. The effects upon the believer ontologically are contrasted with the religious disposition and the positional judicial approach to salvation. The prototypical shift occurs in the Person of Jesus-Christ to an existential reality originated in Trinity and replicated ontologically in the believer. The nature of humankind is thereby reinterpreted giving definition to the “spiritual man” as the sole form of legitimate existence that is biblically normalized and warranted. The ontological primacy provides an alternate construct to the historical structural understanding of church that has not changed since the early patristic period. The proposal emerging from this exegesis is a model of church: ontological and apostolic, originated, [re]sourced, and incarnate from the nature of Trinity, demonstrating undeniably that it is impossible for the Church of divine intent to exist outside of the three persons of the Godhead. There can be many sound reasons for its collapse, however, the most critical problem is Confucianism that is deeply rooted in the Korean Church from the beginning to today. All the power that the church needs comes from the true gospel, but Confucianism in the Korean Church hindered the true Gospel to be the Gospel. Therefore, this major project defines the biblical meaning of the true gospel and danger of changing gospel to other gospel just like what happened in the Galatian Church in Paul’s day. To identify the validity of the assertion of the project, the author chose three influential preachers in the Korean Church and received their answers for the five questions that the author carefully made up; and also received one sermon from each preacher to present criteria about the gospel-centered sermon along with author’s three sermons. As a result, it is true that Confucianism has been infiltrated into the Korean Church from the beginning of its history and created a legalistic atmosphere and brought the absence of the power of the true gospel. All three preachers agreed with the author that Confucianism must be eradicated from the Korean Church, and Korean preachers must start to preach the true gospel to bring the life of Christ abundant in the Korean Church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719696246767616,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:54:11.041Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:49:19Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:06:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"dbd6c40f-dc80-4d63-928d-3d718bd17033","accessControl_ssim":["d20cceee-bae0-4cb7-8750-01accdbf5c72"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Stepping into the unknown : how imaging tools can help rebuild the church for a changed reality"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:49:18Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:25:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cadf48f1-4cc3-4ef5-bfdc-1ed20a96afae"],"hasLease_ssim":["54f392ef-ad39-42e6-9f7b-40680f3fcb20"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis Parks"],"year_tesim":["2019"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Two years on, this project was implemented to evaluate and refocus ownership of God's vision by the congregation. Using congregation behavioral surveys, a worship series based on Joel, and a balcony team (congregation's leaders and the lead pastor-- who served as consultant) planned, implemented and evaluated the congregational members' ownership of God's mission, vision and core values. A VisionWork tool evaluated the vitality and fruitfulness of existing ministries and created a refocused passion and revitalized mission to serve the community beyond the church's walls. K. Methodist Church is in gradual decline, because it now exists in a postmodern, post-Christendom milieu. There is also a lack of effective transformational leadership skills among its leaders. A new ontology and new praxis are needed to address this new reality. This essay integrates transformational leadership characteristics and its practical application within John Wesley’s “Twelve Rules of a Helper,” updated by Mark L. Gorveatte in his Book “Lead like Wesley” as a catalyst tool, to equip the leaders of the Wembley Methodist Circuit (WMC) to initiate church growth. It is argued that these tools are not an end, but a major catalyst that can enable the Methodist Church to experience growth and revival.[Note about entry: Abstract submitted to the Atla RIM database on behalf of the author. This effort was to stop their decline and aid their identity challenge, which included the retirement of their founding pastor of 33 years. This case study used the ethnographic method through participant observation and field notes. Metrics were collected and produced throughout the year and a half in which the project took place. These metrics show a stop of local church decline with ensuing growth in Wesleyan connection and identity through spiritual, numerical, and financial means.[Note about entry: Abstract submitted to the Atla RIM database on behalf of the author. The presenting symptoms of this crisis of identity are pastors and churches stuck in places of ineffectiveness, hopelessness, unhealthy expectations of each other, and general malaise. The project for renewed pastoral and lay leadership at Crossville FUMC has focused on the means of grace by which the Triune God creates the being of the church and from which emerge the corresponding practices of leadership which prepare the congregation for its ministry in the community. Pastors and people reclaim their identity by engaging the crisis of identity through theological questions of identity, “Who is God who creates the Church?” And, “who are we as the Church before God?” In so doing, churches clarify their identity as disciples of Jesus claimed by God in our baptism, members of God’s household with a place at God’s Table, and a community of disciples forever called into God’s mission. . . .[Note: Abstract submitted to the Atla RIM database on behalf of the author.
