A youth-oriented culture views the growing, aging population as a burden not a blessing; that as the number of older adults grows, so will the problems associated with aging (chapter 1). In the context of the church community, the younger adults viewed an aging church population as the decline of a source of gifts and abilities, and a drain upon church resources as older adults' need for ministry increases. The specific Scripture for the basis and focus of this project is Psalm 92, vs 12-14. This Scripture text suggests that older adults, 'planted in the house of the Lord,' in the church, still can bear fruit in old age and have much to offer in the way of resources for the life and mission of the church. This project sought to challenge the myths and misconceptions that suggest older adults are a burden and present a barrier to church renewal (chapter 3). A preliminary questionnaire revealed that those most active in the church and generous with their temporal and spiritual gifts are the older adults. The Scriptures reveal that God does not discriminate on the basis of age when persons are called to use their gifts for the building up and renewal of the faith community (chapter 4), nor does one retire from their Christian vocation until they are called to God's eternal home. Thirty-seven mainline Christians, from various denominations, participated in this project. The concluding chapter is a digest of the respondents' reflections on being a resource for church renewal."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f49f809a-65b5-4566-bfbb-5756e01b6bc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135367487815680,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:49:57.180Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:52:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:26:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1cb8cf32-070e-4362-8c9c-2aa743516327","accessControl_ssim":["74512e57-0646-4246-9181-e04ef183ea40"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An inquiry into preaching that drives a multi-step strategy for revitalizing established churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:52:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:58:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f5f1cd1e-c182-4f04-ad66-722832ee42bf"],"hasLease_ssim":["62fef542-a678-41d8-9b15-dc7b1899e5bb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Haddon W Robinson"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bruce Boria"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church renewal","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["On the word and experience of the nation's top business consultants, it is safe to assert that organizational change is a very difficult road to travel. It is concerned with the reasons why churches find themselves in such predicaments. An emphasis is placed on the biblical theology of restart. Of special concern is the research on the fall of modernity and the rise of postmodernism to take it's place. The thesis begins with a biblical theology of restart that is rooted in the purposes of God. The author demonstrates God's unflinching desire to accomplish His purpose even if it means setting aside unfruitful churches and drafting new agents. The third chapter addresses the purposes of God as they relate to the local church. What happens when a church departs from the purposes of God? The next section addresses the critical issue of postmodernism and how it's advent has pulled culture further from the culture found within most churches. Chapter five outlines the process of restart within the context of the local church. A step-by-step process is outlined and discussed. The work concludes with a chapter on leadership and team development. As we move into the new millennium information will continue to accelerate and changes will occur quicker and with more frequency. The chapter discusses the need for changes within the infrastructure of the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132486758039552,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:04:09.901Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:29:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:56:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4e4d39ed-1e13-4d9d-899c-83bda681a190","accessControl_ssim":["fc587b1f-56a9-4eaa-9009-a298e6814f3b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Shifting the focus of ministry to revitalize a church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:29:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:25:54Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d8b8e8ae-2e15-4064-a070-96098f039248"],"hasLease_ssim":["027c31b5-8f00-4498-aafc-e9f978ff96e2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dan Kent"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Curtis R Marley"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church renewal","Church growth","Northside Baptist Church (Lamesa, Tex)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project is to lead the Northside Baptist Church, Lamesa, Texas, to turn from a passive and declining congregation into a living and growing body of believers. The project will include preaching an eleven-week series of sermons on Sunday mornings that focus on five biblical functions and four specific needs of the church. The functions and needs include evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, worship, commitment, organization, vision, and prayer. In addition, a series of lessons will be taught on Wednesday nights that focus on the same functions and needs. However, the Wednesday lessons will differ from the Sunday sermons by highlighting different aspects. A better understanding of the functions and needs should result in developing effective ministries. The aim of the series is to present the need for a shift in ministry focus that leads the church to revitalization and both spiritual and numerical growth. New ministry options will be explored and examined by a Task Force. The church will be encouraged to look beyond maintenance of present internal ministries."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132012325634048,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:56:37.448Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":186,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
