The project initially presents the growing identity crisis facing Baptists and the causes behind the crisis. The conventions that distinguish Baptists from other congregations, if not appropriately practiced and passed on, threaten to continue eroding Baptist foundations indefinitely. By looking at the ministry of Isaac Backus, this project will propose that pursuing historical connections is both consistent with Baptist distinctiveness and thoroughly biblical. Specifically, the author implemented, observed, and evaluated the impact of introducing the worship arts (dance, drama, music, visual and media art) into the corporate worship experience. Ultimately, the author concluded that the introduction of the worship arts into the corporate worship experience has reinvigorated the worship spirit of the congregation and heightened the congregation's receptivity to change. Working with a ten-member team from Litz Manor Baptist Church, we journeyed through eight distinct phases of transformation. Each phase utilized questionnaires, group coaching and teamwork principles to elicit open and transparent feedback. By focusing on outward ministry possibilities, this team discovered several options for future growth, implementing three. His book, My church, established the parameters of these principles. A church in the 21st century has many influences such as post-modernity, mega-churches, and the loss of denominational identity.  Church leaders could use some insight into the current state of Baptist faith and practice. Shocking changes have occurred in the past five decades. This dissertation is specifically written for church leaders. It features a timely perspective on the current reality of Baptist faith and practice.
