Processes using small groups and congregational meetings were used to move the church through mission clarification, congregational assessment and goal setting.  A study was done of the compatibility of these methods with the fundamentalist Baptist theology of the church. Thirteen church members participated in a program of study and planning.  The study involved five sermons, ten classes, and four planning sessions.  The study group developed and the church approved a statement of church purpose with goals and objectives for 1990. A detailed decadal statistical study of its largest 200 churches was made along with demographic and other cultural data to illustrate the trends that are presently acting upon its ministry. Second Baptist Church is a traditional church whose future depends upon revitalization.  The purpose of the project is to implement a comprehensive model which involves the entire congregation in team ministry.  The method used includes interviewing members to enlist them, organizing ten Ministry Teams and forming a Ministry Council to coordinate the system. Chapter one introduces the content and methodology of the project and defines the context of the church in which it was implemented.  Chapter two sets forth the biblical and theological basis of the project, focusing on two key passages concerning spiritual renewal: 2 Chronicles 7:11-14 and Isaiah 6:1-8.  Chapter two also examines scriptural and doctrinal perspectives on the Holy Spirit. Chapter three evaluates the lessons of past spiritual awakenings.  The chapter addresses the First and Second Great Awakenings and the Prayer Revival of 1857-1858.  Chapter four describes the project's methodology and implementation. A Marriage Enrichment Seminar shows that in marriage worship becomes the adoration of the spouse to the exclusion of all other possible mates. Prayer becomes honest, loving communication. Obedience becomes mutual submission. The renewing church must find God's will for the future.
