The author used mixed research methodology to find quantitative and qualitative results from the local church that he pastored, Chinese Christian Union Church-West (CCUC-W), and four other Chicago area churches. Based on the available data, both the quantity and quality index of CCUC-W were low, and this information was a danger signal of decline. Subsequently, it demonstrates that the Pyongyang revival possessed limitations due to its historical context, and that is how the prayer revival of 1857-1859 can be used to revitalize the prayer practices of the Korean-American church. The two revivals shared many things in common: both of them occurred in the midst of crisis and helped people to overcome the difficulties, prayer played a major role, and they were influenced by other global revivals and also influenced them. However, significant differences occurred between them. The prayer revival was solemn, led by lay leadership, and had strong emphasis on the conversion of the lost. The Pyongyang revival was loud, led by pastor missionaries, and confession of sins was the major concern."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132611440017408,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:06:08.807Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:17:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:35:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"46ce1c76-4216-4180-89ab-eeccb8cba21d","accessControl_ssim":["bdfd32b3-392c-4b5c-9d9d-792fecfcd2ab"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Church replanting in mainline churches: vision casting and equipping evangelical church replanters"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:17:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:11:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a9d4f9c8-e8aa-4dd6-9424-538df29debc9"],"hasLease_ssim":["87d766fc-3557-47b1-a275-a3e130e96789"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James S Harrell"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelicalism","Preaching, Evangelical","Clergy--Training of","Protestant churches","Church renewal--Protestant churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The mainline denominations, as of 2011, have more than 80,000 churches across America, with over 19 million members, which make up greater than 15% of the US population. Many of these churches are in a declining status, often due to the removal of the historic gospel from the pulpits. It will take preaching the historic gospel of Jesus Christ from the pulpit once again to revitalize these churches. Towards that end, this project was undertaken to help cast a vision for revitalizing mainline churches and to encourage evangelical pastors to consider pursuing pulpits in mainline churches, to replant the gospel seed, and to revitalize these churches in order to reach communities for Christ. This thesis is targeted at church replanters and church replanter coaches. The project seeks to provide a theological framework on renewal as applied to mainline churches, address the practical aspects of equipping evangelical pastors to serve in mainline pulpits through a church replanter coaching curriculum, and to set this vision within a larger historical framework."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130688413499392,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:35:34.867Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:01:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:40:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5c63f862-def4-4631-9e1e-e441fc7ce73e","accessControl_ssim":["a907fd05-8007-4730-8ae2-7536fc5a7977"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The evangelical pastor as agent of redemptive and collaborative change in a mainline church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:01:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:50:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1d932a7b-c3c1-4bb3-97c3-a6b6e75a2715"],"hasLease_ssim":["4371120c-e473-4977-8741-cda0da6efb4e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen A Macchia"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Randall J Forester"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict","Congregations, Protestant"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Religions","Congregations","St Paul's Community Church (Chicora, Pa)","Federated churches","St Paul's Congregational Church (Rural Valley, Pa)","United Church of Christ","Church renewal--Protestant churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis focuses on how the pastor aligns a congregation with the will of God by coming alongside them and reminding them of their story and place within God's plan. Using a narrative methodology, there will be a comparison of the experience of St. Paul's Community Church with St. Paul's Congregational Church (Rural Valley, PA), both of which have a shared historic affiliation with the United Church of Christ and ethnic, geographic, and sociological similarities. Together with a look at the local church's ecclesiological context, a biblical view of the Spirit's creative work in individual lives, and a historical view of conflict in St. Paul's Community Church, there will be a description of the forces that created an outcome that could only be created by the people and pastor working in a way that fit the context. This thesis explores the historical hope of revival and key aspects of Puritan spirituality that can be foundational building blocks for a revived and reformed Japanese church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132024801591296,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:56:49.346Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T06:55:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:23:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c515ceba-c9d2-4c62-84e9-3b71c2b1fc84","accessControl_ssim":["98f3a85e-e0a4-40e3-a56c-033e157585b4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The transformation of loss in mainline traditional churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T06:55:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:47:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["723ca72e-49c1-4b4e-b770-f4a29b11f990"],"hasLease_ssim":["388cf1a2-d930-4a2c-8424-ec129f2e85bc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carroll Saussy"],"year_tesim":["1998"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
