The individuals and the families of those on the Autism Spectrum Disorder are not present in our worship services. This neuro-different population is not participating in communal worship, nor are their family members. It is time for intentional outreach to this important and tremendous segment of our general population. Anecdotal evidence shows that quite often the parents of children on the spectrum are worried about both the reactions and welcome their child might generate and receive, and the disruption their child may bring to the service. However, the strong theme of hospitality throughout scripture, including the teachings of Jesus, compel us to be welcoming and accepting. Providing some basic education to the congregations will increase the likelihood of a community that is able to truly welcome and embrace the individuals and families of those on the spectrum. Additionally, embracing all of God's children, including those who are neuro-different, brings new gifts and talents into the gathering and ministries of the organizations. Pastorally, all people are in need of safe places to worship, grow spiritually and to receive care and support. In addition, many of the normal activities and programs of worshipping communities will prove to be greatly beneficial to those on the spectrum, proving unintentional intervention simply by offering acceptance and interaction. Project"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Steven Robert Magneson"],"subject_tesim":["Organizational change","Church work","Spiritual life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In my early years as a minister, I noticed a connection between disruption and spiritual transformation. “Disruption” describes those events and circumstances that force individuals to move outside of their comfort zones, routines, or habits. These situations often lead to new perspectives that help them ask new questions about the world around them. For me, three specific instances of disruption had particular importance when I served as a young minister. These disruptions included a woman with a mental illness, a church member with a cancer diagnosis, and a friend struggling with depression. These three experiences helped me understand how to approach other disruptive circumstances and be attentive to the ways God was at work. Disruption can lead to life-changing spiritual transformations. However, not all people who experience disruption also experience transformation in a positive way. Why is this so? What is the connection between disruptive moments and an individual’s capacity for profound spiritual transformation and renewal? These questions have guided my research and my effort to determine how church leaders can equip their communities to embrace disruption as a catalyst for spiritual transformation. I began by researching how various scholars and theologians have addressed the topic of disruption. I also looked at how God often worked through disruptive moments in scripture to bring about God’s purposes in the world. This led me to start a project to help church members intentionally move towards disruptive places as a means of spiritual transformation. What I discovered, however, was that my plans would be disrupted in an unprecedented way. This project and the global pandemic of 2020 forced me to embrace my own disruptive journey. These specialists identified an association between pastoral leadership style, the presence of a compelling vision that identified how the church should look in the future and key actions that would result in the cessation of the decline and initiation of revitalization. The readers will discover that there is an association between the visionary leadership of the pastor and the principles used to impact at least eight different spheres of the ministry that have been entrusted to him. This dissertation defined “visionary leadership” as leadership that inspires people to change because of two things: the Senior Pastor’s model and message. The project will examine the role the of selected senior pastors and the impact of their visionary leadership on the revitalization of a declining church. The primary means of investigation and research in this project was the use of eight case studies of pastors, which will assess their leadership style and its impact on revitalization. Some of these pastors entered their churches more than twenty years ago, and some began three years ago. In each case, their churches have experienced marked growth after a period of decline. This was the reality of Hope Community ChurchDowntown (HCC DT) in Minneapolis, MN at the time of this paper’s formation. Specific areasof challenge which have been explored include growth from small to large and transitions inleadership between generation and senior leaders. The fortification of the church depends onbuilding an accurate list of common challenges that can be later addressed by church staff andleadership.The process utilized to accomplish that purpose included robust biblical and literatureresearch followed by interviews with seven pastors serving in churches similar to HCC DT. Theinitial research led to a preliminary list of challenges which were then utilized in interviews todetermine their relative validity within the lived experiences of pastors. Analysis of the researchand field work revealed five significant findings churches must address for the sake of long-termendurance: (1) Answer the question, “Who are we today?”, (2) Address unavoidable realities, (3)Foster the following, (4) Protect against these, and (5) Achieve success in pastoral succession.Each of these is explained and illustrated with real-life examples from within local churches.Upon completion of this project, a list of common challenges was presented to the eldersand staff of HCC DT. Acts"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Grace Lutheran Ministries in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, strives to affect both its congregation and community through ministry. As ministry grows, it is essential for Grace to implement a strategy for developing leaders and deploying them into ministry. This major project focused on the essential nature, culture, and strategies for empowering leaders from not just the paid staff but from among all of God’s people and then developing them in areas of character and competency. The project also focused on the importance of alignment in the leadership development process.The project utilized three research methods. First, a Biblical, theological, and literary study of leadership development was done in the areas of character, competency, and alignment. Second, questionnaires and a focus group were used to understand the current view of leadership development and alignment among Grace’s leaders. Third, the nominal group technique was utilized to brainstorm key ideas and strategies for the leadership development strategy. A strategic plan was developed that began with creating a leadership culture around the unified use of language through leadership principles. Then, four strategic goals were created to develop, deploy, and debrief leaders at Grace through the use of small groups, coaching, and large group settings. The biggest cause for the decline is linked to the massive exodus of younger generations from the traditional context. This phenomenon has inspired pastors, preachers, and thought leaders to engage in conversation of how to address the issue. That conversation has revealed generational engagement in preaching as one solution to stimulating congregational life within a traditional worship context. This thesis explores the use of a multigenerational preaching approach to inspire congregational engagement. This thesis will posit that preaching where sermons intentionally reach different generations in a similar context, will result in engagement for both older and younger generations. Thisportfolio begins with the author’s spiritual autobiography and with thatknowledge the model of spiritual formation was developed. The spiritual modelcan be pictured using an image of a wheel where Christ is placed at the hub (thecenter) of one’s life and is connected to all the spokes (or parts) of one’s life. Themodel works to encourage people to move Christ closer to the center of theirlives, where they can live and have their being in their “true selves,” as God’s willintends.Using this model of spiritual formation, a field research project wasdeveloped to help spiritually form the spiritual leaders of the OakridgePresbyterian Church congregation towards a greater unity in Christ. Using theExamen as a spiritual practice helped guide participants to focus and beintentional about noticing God’s presence in all things and therefore helping tokeep Christ as the centre of their life.
