The hypotheses was that through appropriating tools and techniques from two secular theories - Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Therapy - people of hope, especially those who have lost a spouse of a number of years, could learn to live again, laugh again, and love again with the faith and hope that their separation is a temporary one, not a permanent one. The model was a blended pre-post Functional Change and Theological Appropriation of a Secular Theory approach. The project leader equipped selected lay leaders of Central Baptist Church, Hillsboro, Texas, to minister with the exigencies stemming from prenatal loss. The participants acquired the skills to effectively minister to parents coping with prenatal loss. The project director attempted to equip members of churches by accomplishing three goals. First, the project director researched the field of grief. Second, the project director developed four grief seminars. The seminars included a biblical rationale for establishing an on-going grief ministry, a working understanding of the grief process, and knowledge of how to minister to grieving people. The workbook will be used for individual or group grief work. The historical, theological and biblical research will help to substantiate the need for such a book. The project will formulate the historical perspectives on suicide and will identify the spiritual issues that burden the bereaved. Proactive research will come from a case study, a support group survey, professional interviews and workbook evaluations already in existence.
