Interviews were conducted with members of the congregation experiencing loss to ascertain insights into the grieving process as well as pastoral and congregational acts deemed significantly helpful. Findings reveal both pastor and congregation have much to offer the grieving. This project will be an equipping program model.  The project director will conduct research and develop materials to be used to train a group of deacons and wives for the purpose of assisting pastoral staff in aftercare ministry.  The equipping process will include: 1) providing a biblical rationale for utilizing deacons in aftercare ministry; 2) providing information discovered as a result of research regarding grief associated with death; 3) training the group to assist pastoral staff in aftercare ministry; and 4) encouraging sensitivity to and participation in aftercare ministry. Proactive research will come from a case study, a support group survey, professional interviews and workbook evaluations already in existence. This facilitation was accomplished by better understanding of the hope and comfort given in the Scriptures. Twenty participants were evaluated by pre-tests, post-tests, follow-up tests, and my personal interviews. A series of three workshops was presented at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Shelby, Ohio, with the belief that Christian principles of grief assist the griever in the process of mourning.  The author proposed that a relationship to Jesus with both personal and communal aspects will help in the overwhelming task of grief.  By pre and post testing the author measures a baseline of both help received and the knowledge gained about the healthy Christian grief process. However, there is little in the literature that acknowledges grief as spiritual in nature and it is notable how seldom parents engage, or are engaged by, faith communities as they grapple with their faith concerns.  From interviews of eight bereaved mothers of a perinatal loss, three key spiritual concerns are identified and discussed: faith crisis, isolation, and forgetting. The objective of this project was to determine if compassionate spiritual, emotional, and practical assistance to widows during the critical bereavement period would be helpful. The methodology selected for the model included a questionnaire, interviews, observations, and feedback. A pro-active / qualitative research design was used for this project.
