Participants were required to complete ministry visits and report on their experiences.  Project sessions included testing on the material presented, discussion of the presentations, and evaluations of the individual sessions and the completed project.  The church was involved through a series of sermons presenting basic material from the project. Theological, biblical and psychological foundations relating to grief are explored.  A history and description of establishing and conducting such a group at Carle Foundation Hospital for one year is given.  There are many common feelings, ideas, sensations, and behaviors among the bereaved, but they will be uniquely individual in their expression. Participants responded spiritually in four representative types: confirmation, affirmation with change, radical newness, and radical disorder. Theological reflection increased emotional resolution and spiritual growth in bereavement. Those engaging the pain and confusion of spiritual transformation asserted new meaning, perspective, and strength as a result of grief. This qualitative case study demonstrated thematic dconsistency in the way young adult women bereaved during college years engage or do not engage questions of God's character, justice and their own identities during bereavement.
