Several theories of grief, both inside and outside of the SDA Church, are briefly explored, thereby developing an understanding of the dynamics of the grief encounter.  Nine grieving individuals of the church founded and formed a grief support group.  For six consecutive weeks they met, and processed their grief pains and acquired insights on being caregivers to other grievers. The method of study was by interviewing twelve members bereaved through shocking death using a research instrument, and assisted by studies on post-traumatic stress disorder. It deals mainly with the death of a pastor's wife and the pastoral care received during the dying process.  It also includes interviews with ten individuals who experienced the death of a loved one during a period of active ministry to a congregation as a pastor. In our high tech society the evangelical church has neglected the care of widows by relegating much of its responsibility to secular agencies. This project is a summons to the church to return to the biblical priority of caring for widows in practical ways. Using personal interviews, surveys, statistical analysis, as well as traditional methods of research, the author sought to determine exactly how serious the problem of neglect toward widows is, what their needs are, and how the church might begin a viable ministry to address these needs.
