This vision encouraged the author, integrating his eleven years of pastoral experience in the Hong Kong Methodist Church, to implement a fourteen three-hour weekly session program for a group of married couples at the Cleveland Chinese Christian Church, Ohio.  The result was obvious: each couple successfully formed a family group and helped to nurture the whole congregation.  Later, new missions were started. The thesis of the practicum is that the Cognitive model is an effective therapy orientation for utilization in ministry to couples. The seminars were conducted with a total of fourteen couples participating. This thesis proposes a vital part of the answer to this problem by presenting a biblical model of addiction and ministry to the addicted. The author points out the flaws in 12-step groups and provides an alternative which is biblical in its approach. This alternative is called Higher Ground, a local church-sponsored, Christ-centered support group for the addicted and the family.  The author presents a history of this ministry, shows how it implements biblical principles and evaluates the effectiveness of this ministry with statistics and case studies.  The author gathered his information by acting as facilitator of a Higher Ground group in his own church as part of his
