Quite simply, one generation is having to take care of two generations.  This occurs as older members of society live longer than historically has been the case. Thus, the dilemma of the middle generation, identified as the sandwich generation, is exacerbated by caring for both children at home and elderly parents who need physical, financial, or medical assistance, creating a drain on the resources of all family members.  This project examines the factors contributing to this phenomena, primarily through a review of contemporary literature.  The project also addresses possible ways to alleviate the burden placed upon the sandwich generation, and what the future of the family holds if current trends continue.  The church should play a significant role in the life of the elderly. In so doing, it assists the sandwich generation in caring for elderly parents. The lack of systems support and tools for assisting these families both in and out of the church was met by adapting the Twelve-steps of Alcoholics Anonymous to the blending-family.  Eight couples spent nine two-hour sessions creating and working the Twelve-steps for the blending-family. It equipped the parents with the skills necessary to manage no-end grief.  No-end grief manifests in parents of handicapped children as unrelenting episodes of grief with no predictable conclusion.  During a six-week workshop, the instructor introduced a proactive grief management tool he calls Flash Grief. Adults once distanced from the church have an open door to the church provided them as well as a new place for service and participation.  Children of diverse ages are provided both a new forum for active participation and a time for worship. All those involved are given a new context in which to participate in the narrative message of the gospel which claims seekers and believers in ways which nurture faith and stimulate the enterprise of raising children with biblical faith.  This event, called church school worship, meets contemporary social and religious needs especially prevalent among baby boomer parents. It can serve as a vital and creative tool within a comprehensive family ministry of a local congregation. A book was written and tested by surveying Christians in the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI).  Results demonstrate evangelical families have frustrations with churches and ministers.  They also struggle with isolation, depression, fears, denial, family conflicts and concern over demons.  These who withdraw from Christian fellowship or think demons cause mental illness respond with lower test scores.  The appendix gives a statistical
