First, I examined the attendance records of Stone Ridge to identify family units and developed and distributed a survey to parents to discover the spiritual needs of families. Second, I explored existing family ministry literature, interviewed two pastors, and determined the best practices of existing family ministry strategies. Third, I recruited and trained a strategy planning team of five church members who assisted me in developing a family ministry strategy for Stone Ridge using the internal audit of attendance records, survey results, and a list of best practices in family ministry. Fourth, I presented the family ministry strategy to the senior pastor and a group of selected parents for consideration. The objective was to develop a strategy that balanced the grace of Jesus with the truth of his gospel, to express love to all while holding to biblical convictions. Based upon a strategy planning model, this project contained four phases. Initially, I surveyed the First Baptist Church  congregation to define the target audience and discover the church culture  relative to issues of sexual identity. The objective of the second phase was to determine best practices by exploring existing models of sexual-identity ministry. The information from the first two steps then informed the development of a sexual-identity family ministry strategy for First Baptist Church, including the selection and training of a strategy planning team who designed the ministry strategy. To conclude the project, I presented the completed ministry strategy to the First Baptist Church staff, who unanimously agreed to integrate the strategy into the church’s discipleship ministry. To accomplish this purpose, I first researched essential skills needed for familycentric disciple-making. From this research, I created an annotated bibliography on the subject and identified seven groupings of essential skills required to begin the familycentric disciple-making process. From these resources followed the development of acurriculum based on the skills identified. After creating the curriculum, I hosted seven sessions over four weeks for a pre-established small group of six family units ranging from newlyweds to parents of teenagers. The family-centric disciple-making curriculum taught the members of the small group to view disciple-making as more than just family Bible study but a constant part of everyday life. These skills will help the members of this group improve as spiritual leaders inside their own homes.
