Participants were led in weekend marriage crisis-intervention seminars designed to help them better understand themselves and their spouses. They learned about personality, conflict, communication, forgiveness, and change. A selected group of parents and teenagers participated in an eight-week project involving listening, talking, decision making, and conflict resolution. Willingness of parents to make a change in the way they approached communication relieves some of the anxiety that accompanies many types of parent-teen innteractions.  Among the elements of improved communication are time involvement, genuineness, and unconditional love. A four-week series of sermons and complimentary workshops were were presented to leavers (teenagers) and launchers (parents).  Evaluation forms indicated that both groups grew psychologically and theologically. Quite simply, one generation is having to take care of two generations.  This occurs as older members of society live longer than historically has been the case. Thus, the dilemma of the middle generation, identified as the sandwich generation, is exacerbated by caring for both children at home and elderly parents who need physical, financial, or medical assistance, creating a drain on the resources of all family members.  This project examines the factors contributing to this phenomena, primarily through a review of contemporary literature.  The project also addresses possible ways to alleviate the burden placed upon the sandwich generation, and what the future of the family holds if current trends continue.  The church should play a significant role in the life of the elderly. In so doing, it assists the sandwich generation in caring for elderly parents. The lack of systems support and tools for assisting these families both in and out of the church was met by adapting the Twelve-steps of Alcoholics Anonymous to the blending-family.  Eight couples spent nine two-hour sessions creating and working the Twelve-steps for the blending-family. It equipped the parents with the skills necessary to manage no-end grief.  No-end grief manifests in parents of handicapped children as unrelenting episodes of grief with no predictable conclusion.  During a six-week workshop, the instructor introduced a proactive grief management tool he calls Flash Grief. Adults once distanced from the church have an open door to the church provided them as well as a new place for service and participation.  Children of diverse ages are provided both a new forum for active participation and a time for worship. All those involved are given a new context in which to participate in the narrative message of the gospel which claims seekers and believers in ways which nurture faith and stimulate the enterprise of raising children with biblical faith.  This event, called church school worship, meets contemporary social and religious needs especially prevalent among baby boomer parents. It can serve as a vital and creative tool within a comprehensive family ministry of a local congregation. To identify and define parenting principles, the descriptive and historical methods of research were used. Selected parents participated in an eight-week training seminar.  Experimental and descriptive methodology was the basis of pretest/posttest evaluation of a control and experimental group.  Statistical analysis indicated the experimental group demonstrated significant levels of change after the training.  The participants continued in a seven-week seminar to design a program for applying the parenting principles.
