A primary premise of this research is that ethnic churches -- in this particular case, Brazilian churches -- have the potential of greatly helping immigrants to adapt to their new environment and to counteract the stress of the immigration experience, assimilation and adaptation (introduction and chapter one).  This work was developed following a systemic approach and guided by three nurturing questions that originated from Eldin Villafañe's 'hermeneutical circle of social ethics' (clarification, conceptualization and confrontation). Pastoral actions and reflections on dealing with the issues related to this study emerged from our understanding of systematic theology and the investigation of other pertinent sources (chapters two and three).  The goal of the learning team and the exercise called 'hexagon process' was to look at how these Brazilian churches can develop ministries that will create positive and lasting results, and the possible scenarios where the ethnic churches can intervene (chapter four). More specifically, the researcher studied the leadership of Rev. Young Choon Chang, the senior pastor of the Korean American Presbyterian Church of Queens (KAPCQ) and the impact of his leadership on the growth of KAPCQ.  This research employed qualitative study methods with information obtained through interviews, surveys, documents, and observations.  The results of this research are stated below.  First, we know that in the late 20th century a fresh wave of leaders transformed nations and organizations with a style of leadership that recent leadership research has defined as transformational leadership.  This newly defined leadership model promises to change the very essence of organizations that under inefficient leadership had not looked beyond the status quo. Second, although the term 'transformational leadership' was coined by James MacGregor Burns in 1978, the researcher found that the idea of transformational leadership originated in the concept of man's creation in the image of God and the creation mandate in the Bible. The complex system of Cambridge Community Fellowship Church served as the case study for this project.  The framework for this study is provided by Eldin Villafañe's hermeneutical circle, which progresses as clarification (clarify the issue and the challenges at hand), conceptualization (applicable theological and sociological analysis), and confrontation (principles or next steps of addressing the issue).  Clarification involves examining two of the central elements of CCFC, its postmodern ethos and its emergence from the immigrant experience.  To that end, postmodern culture was studied from various angles.  Additionally, the development of second generation ethnic American identity was also studied. Conceptualization involved the movement towards developing a relevant postmodern theology applicable in the urban context. Conceptualization also involved the application of systems thinking to unpack the system of CCFC in order to address specific issues at CCFC.  Confrontation calls for the development of strategies and principles to address the various issues.
